Description
The Last Ocean Liner

The RMS Queen Mary 2 is the only ocean liner still in service in the world and Flagship of Cunard Lines, regularly making transatlantic voyages from her base in Southampton to New York City and back. In addition to her official role as an ocean liner, she also undertakes cruise voyages more similarly to true cruise ships, taking multiple journeys in and around the Caribbean, South America, the British Isles and Asia.

The ship was laid down in July 2002 and completed her maiden voyage in January of 2004. At this time, she was the largest passenger ship ever built, weighing in at 148,528 Gross Tons and measuring at 345.03 meters long, however has since lost these records when Royal Caribbean's 154,407 GT Freedom of the Seas was completed in 2006. Queen Mary 2 is faster than the average cruise ship, her diesel engines propelling her to a max speed of just over 30 knots with a cruising speed of 26 knots. As an ocean liner she is often seen as more luxurious and formal than the average Cruise ship, a nod back to the long standing tradition of ocean liners prevalent in the 20th century.

Vehicle functions as a cruise ship, however due to size limitations in game, she will never dock at a harbor.

This is by far the best passenger ship model I have seen, currently I am trying to create my own asset using Blender. I have no prior experience to creating 3d models but I would like to create detailed cruise ship and yacht assets for the game and the community. Any tips or tutorials you recommend?

This asset is so cool, but it's huge. So sad i cant use it. Larger than my entire downtown area.

And I agree with trifolds idea too. You normally don't put 10 of this ship but only 1 in your game (but you can use 10 if you want). In a parking lot about 25% of the size of the ship you will easily put 60-100 car props which will definitely be way more intense than the tris from this single ship. Same for a traffic jammed highway full of cars too.

45260 tris for a hull larger than an aircraft carrier isn't intense at all in my viewpoint. A highly detailed building about 1/3 the size of this can be about 20K already. So I don't think there is much room left for optimization. Probably optimize the size of texture is possible.

Thanks for the reply. I can totally understand your decision. But please be conscious of the fact that there are a lot of people who use a lot of workshop assets. I will use your model for sure for my cruise ship harbour. because it is a absolute highlight asset

I understand the issue some people have with how intensive this asset may be, but I figured this is something that is really meant to only be placed once in the city or seen rarely sailing across the ocean, so I thought making it more detailed was worth it in this case. I will definitely try to optimize it a bit more because, yes it is alot of triangles.

This is a really great model! But as macluk said before: It is massive! There are more and more really high quality assets on the workshop with big mesh and file sizes and a lot of triangels. Me as a cites skylines builder is the optimization of an asset for the game as important as the look of the single asset. I don't want to have 50 awesome looking assets on my map and the other ones have to compensate by beeing way less beautiful, because the ressources are taken by the 50 awesome ones. I appreciate your work very much! Perhaps you are willing to take my thoughts of doing more compromises between the best look and optimization for the game for future assets.
