Solid Snake

Description
Kept you waiting, huh?
Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series finally comes to Rivals of Aether!

READ FIRST: (05/06/2022)
I am aware that this mod isn't as user-friendly as it could be. I am also aware that this mod has performance issues, and from what I've heard, can't be easily played online.
If I have time, I plan to make a simplified version of this mod that resolves these issues.

Overview
His moveset is loosely based on his Super Smash Bros. moveset, but with a larger variety of possibilities for stage control. Mix and match different weapons and equipment to suit the situation. You can use CQC, firearms, throwing weapons, and placed weapons in conjunction with each other, as you see fit.

If you're spotted by your opponent, they'll be able to escape your CQC grabs faster. Inversely, if you manage to stay out of their sights, you'll be able to keep your opponents in a hold for a longer time.

HOW TO PLAY:

Neutral Special: Throwing Weapons
When readying a throwing weapon with SPECIAL, use the left stick to control your throwing arc, and press ATTACK to throw.

Forward Special: Firearms
When aiming a firearm with SPECIAL press ATTACK to fire, and TAUNT to manually reload.
You can move while aiming with the left stick.
For free aiming, hold the DODGE button, and use the left stick to aim.

Down Special: Placed Weapons
When readying a placed weapon with SPECIAL, press ATTACK to plant the weapon. Detonatable weapons can be planted on other players.
To detonate, press TAUNT while holding SPECIAL. You will detonate the last detonatable weapon you've placed, regardless of what placed weapon you have equipped.

Up Special (while Grounded): Items
While on the ground, press up + SPECIAL to use the currently equipped item.

Lethal Weapons
Lethal (red) weapons deplete the opponent's LIFE gauge. Once a player's LIFE gauge is depleted, they'll receive more knockback from lethal weapons.

If you try to deplete an opponent's LIFE gauge by spamming firearm attacks, you'll be more likely to catch yourself reloading in the middle of trying to knock them off-stage. However, if you were to deplete their LIFE gauge with an explosive first, you'll have an easier time finishing them off with a firearm.

Non-Lethal Weapons
Non-lethal weapons deplete the opponent's PSYCHE gauge. Once a player's PSYCHE gauge is depleted, they'll be knocked unconscious. The more damage percent they have, the longer they'll remain unconscious for.

Starting Loadouts
Before the start of a match, you can choose which loadout to start with in the CSS menu. The loadout changes what weapons (specials) Snake will have equipped at the start of a match.

Supply Drops
Not satisfied with your current pre-made loadout? No problem! You can open the supply drop menu with TAUNT + ATTACK, and select the weapon you want to have delivered to you.

Inventory Selection
To manually change weapons, hold TAUNT to open the weapon menu, and use right stick to select a category. (Left for throwing weapons, right for firearms, down for placed weapons, and up for items.) With the right stick held, use left stick to scroll through your weapons, and select the one you want.
To attach suppressors, hover over a weapon, and press ATTACK to toggle the suppressor on/off.
To quickly cycle through a weapon category in a pinch, hold taunt, and tap the right stick to cycle through the category's weapons.
To quickly unequip / equip your current firearm, quickly tap the TAUNT button at any time. This is useful for canceling the chambering animations when using firearms, or if you want to switch to using your bare hands immediately.

CQC Slam
When not holding a rifle, hold STRONG to perform a CQC grab. This will quickly throw the opponent behind you, causing them to drop ammo for your current weapons.

CQC Hold
When not holding a rifle, hold STRONG while not holding a direction to put the opponent into a hold. The higher the opponent's damage, the longer you can hold them for.
From here you have three options: Throw, choke, and interrogate.
To throw an opponent, hold the left stick in the direction you want to throw the opponent, and quickly release and press the strong button once to throw them. CQC throw knockback doesn't scale with damage, so it's useful for repositioning opponents into traps. Throwing them will also cause them to drop ammo for your current weapons.
To choke an opponent, tap the strong button repeatedly. This will deplete their PSYCHE gauge.
To interrogate an opponent, hold TAUNT to pull out a knife, and demand information. (This doesn't really serve any practical purpose. It's more just a glorified taunt.)

Planned Features
  • Codec calls
  • Non-Lethal victories
  • Dynamic ALERT music stage compatibility
  • Hold-ups
  • Restoring cut equipment
  • More meaningful ALERT system
  • Sound entities / distractions
  • Various compatibilities with other fighters

FAQ
(FAQ will be updated as time goes on.)
Q: How do I navigate the menu?
A: You need to use both the left and right stick to navigate the inventory.

Q: How do I navigate the menu on keyboard?
A: Keyboard users will have to map the right stick directions to something. (Num pad, or Home-Del-End-PgDn recommended, if using default controls.)

this is great, but the menu is clunky, & some controls aren't super great for a tense fight. peak mod though don't get me wrong.

@c r i s i s: That would be really cool. I don't think there are any overpowered combinations anyway so I don't see any problems with the idea.

Please add a menu in the css that allows you to pick weapons and make a custom loadout. Having to hold taunt and then call in a care package is a little too much. this would also allow the custom loadouts to be saved almost indefinitely.

we need raiden

@Grahdens: As a general statement, that's true but I don't think it applies here. I think everything he has is useful & fun or just needs to be buffed until it is useful & fun.

this character would be my new main if i did not need to hold down taunt to switch out weapons, the one time i feel that i can actually use the airdrop feature is when the cpu glitches and gets stuck using an attack because i usually make cpus use a modded character
