Panzertriebwagen 16

Panzertriebwagen No. 16 (Skr. PzTrWg 16 or PT 16) was a ww2 German heavy armored train, powered by a 550 hp Voith hydraulic transmission diesel engine, and built by the Berliner Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Actien vormals L. Schwartzkopff, in 1942 This vehicle was based on a locomotive design for an armored train (WR 550 D14), then encased in additional armor and equipped with two armored artillery positions, at both ends of the train. These were initially armed with two 20 mm anti-aircraft guns (2 cm Flakvierling 38) but this was modified to use two Russian FK 295/1 76.2 mm guns (as used on BP42 armored trains ). Panzertriebwagen No. 16 armor thickness ranged from 31 mm to 84 mm, and the vehicle was the heaviest armored railroad vehicle in existence. Only one was built, and that served on the Eastern Front.

In 1943, the train was used as a reserve weapon, patrolling areas threatened by partisans. In the spring and summer of 1944, he was in the service of Army Group Center and took part in, among other things, the battles of Rawa Ruska and Lublin. It then retreated west after the Eastern Front began to slide towards the borders of the Third Reich. In April 1945, PzTrWg 16 took part in the Battle of Neuruppin and between 1 and 2 May 1945 was captured undamaged at Neustadt. After the end of World War II, the PzTrWg 16 was put into service with the Polish Army, maintaining operational military communications in service areas. The train was in operational service in the Bieszczady Mountains, until late 1947, protecting railway tracks and election posts from partisans,
