When pirate attacks in Border Worlds became more frequent, and relations with the neighboring state - Aenum Republic - worsened, Outer Planets Consolidation began to retrofit its combat fleet. And although by this time, in addition to the old warships represented by Unstoppable and even Justicar, new Serene-class ships were on combat duty, Consolidation was significantly inferior in the capabilities of its ground forces to Aenum troops.

As part of the development of ground troops, OPC has begun to design new combat vehicles. The first released transport was the Arepo light reconnaissance vehicle. Designed to conduct reconnaissance on the front line, this single-seat transport is also capable of supporting infantry through the use of Gungnir, an automatic cannon developed by Consolidation for use on small transports.

The first combat use of this transport occurred on Tarox, the closest planet to the neutral zone separating the Consolidation territory from Aenum. Several Arepos conducting patrols near a large logistics complex serving a local section of the defense network found a small dropship landing a reconnaissance group. The downed ship was the first casualty in the incipient war between OPC and Aenum.
