Here is the Dutch ocean liner SS Nieuw Amsterdam!


SS Nieuw Amsterdam (New Amsterdam/New York) was built for the Holland America Line in 1938. She was originally named Prinsendam during construction, but was renamed Nieuw Amsterdam. She proved to be a pretty popular ship among many people, but her service was cut short after the start of WW2. When Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands, Nieuw Amsterdam, which was still laid up in New Jersey at the start of the war, was requisitioned by the Ministry of Transport in Britain and she would be used as the troopship for the remainder of the war. She was returned to the Holland America Line after the war, where she received a refit. She returned to transatlantic service in 1947, and served until 1973. She was scrapped a year later.
