Gascogne

Gascogne is the No. 4 ship of the French Navy's Lissajous battleship. The name of the ship comes from Gascony (England: Gascony; France: Gascogne), a province in the southwest of France. It is also the name of the battleship named after the provincial division of the French navy, which continues to the later battleship name (Alsace class).

Different from the first three ships of the same level, the shape of the ship is only shown in the drawing, and only some parts are prepared. It was originally planned that the ship would complete the construction of Jean Barr's berth at the San Nazaire naval dock. However, in June 1940, France was defeated and surrendered, and Germany successfully occupied the port of Saint Nazaire. Jean Barr, who completed 75% of the work, had to leave for North Africa first, while gaskone, who was waiting for construction, was never really ordered to start construction.

The construction plan of the ship comes from the 1938 supplementary program of the French Navy: since Italy added two Vittorio Veneto Class Battleships in 1937, France decided to take reciprocal measures to build two additional liseliu Class Battleships to ensure the balance of military existence in the Mediterranean. However, due to the stagnant industrial construction capacity of France after the first World War, the two liserian Class Battleships adopted the so-called "improvement schemes" respectively compared with the previous ones, namely project a and project B (the third improvement scheme "scheme C" became the later design basis of Alsace class) - as ship 4, gasconie adopted "scheme B", As a result, the ship layout is completely different from the previous three sister ships, and can even be listed as a new class.
