Description
BROKEN - This creation has 1 or more things broken due to updates.
Things expected to not work:
Nuclear Reactor - Boiler control system broken by removal of pressure node
Ballast system - Blowing and filling ballast is highly unlikely to work.

Overview
-------------
The X-5 is a nuclear powered mini-submarine, designed for general purpose use. From transporting divers to and from other larger submarines while at sea, to exploring underwater features, to delivering special forces operatives into enemy territory on covert ops, the X-5 has it covered. Through using an improved hull and reactor design, it manages to be smaller and lighter than it's predecessor while being faster, capable of doing 38 knots on turbine power.

With the X-5 being designed as dock-able craft, there is a strong emphasis placed on slow speed control. In addition to a stationary/slow speed depth hold, X-5 possesses roll, yaw, pitch, and side to side strafe motors allows docking with other submerged creations to be easier than ever.

Systems operation
-------------------------
To those who're familiar with the X-4, the X-5s control setup will seem very familiar. While this is true, there are some new systems/ways of doing things that'd I'd also like to outline.

1. Reactor and power-plant operation.
By default, the X-5 spawns in with the reactor on, and will take 1-2 minutes to start powering the turbines, pending the temperature of where you spawn. When driving the X-5, you can choose to either use the electric motor or use the turbine directly. By default, the electric motor is selected and gets un-selected when you engage the direct drive button. Your throttle inputs will not work when direct drive is selected, so use the motor for more precise maneuvering. Also, when you engage the direct drive, the electric motor throttle is automatically set to 0(even though the throttle indicator doesn't show that) so don't worry that you're wasting power. The reactor is also limited by max depth, as the pumps cooling the condenser will eventually no longer be functional, which is indicated by a light on the right control panel.

note: If you intend to spawn it on land or out of the water, make sure you use the select tool to turn it off, as the condensers will overheat and explode without seawater.

2. Diving and depth hold operation
X-5 is positively buoyant, meaning that to dive at slower speeds you need to fill the main ballast tank. However, due to the cramped nature of X-5, the ballast is not evenly balanced, meaning that the sub will lean far forward when stationary. When moving, this is not an issue, but to get around this problem while stationary, X-5 features some control aids.

-Stationary depth hold: The stationary depth hold will automatically engage when below 11 knots. While it is good for roughly holding depth on it's own, it needs some help from other systems to keep the sub level and balanced.
- Pitch and roll stabilizers: These need to be turned on, and will help when moving and stationary.
- Pitch and roll motors: These thrusters allow you to control the attitude of your submarine, and in combination with the stabilizers, will keep you nice and level when stationary.

Using the pitch stabilizer with the roll/pitch motors is very important for the stationary depth hold, but make sure to turn it OFF when trying to change large intervals of depth, as with it on it can take a while.

3. Autopilot/Transponder system
The X-5 features a transponder system that is capable of both receiving and broadcasting GPS coordinates and altitudes. The purpose of this is to allow you to find your mothership submarine without usage of the game map, and using autopilot to drive to that location. The X-5 also features the ability to manually input waypoints that you'd like to travel to, using the same keypad. To change between these 2 modes of operation, use the "Manual AP/Transponder AP" switch on the instrument panel next to the large keypad. By default, the system is set to use the manual AP input. Also, note that the system will not transmit data if it is set to manual AP more OR the frequency in transponder mode is set to 0, 0.

note: currently the only submarine with the transponder system equipped is Robert 4, although the system can be found here for your own personal use.

Personal notes:
I'm back! Sort of! I guess however many months it's been since I last built something has been enough, because I really like how this thing turned out. I'm glad to finally have a proper mini-sub that's nuclear, because the X-4 was just way too big. Robert 5 is in the works for real this time, after a complete hull redesign. If you're interested in seeing the progress of that, follow my screenshots.

And a very special thank you to the very fine people over at the Subworks discord server who helped me through parts of this design I never would have been able to learn alone, like the paint job.

Hope you guys enjoy this one, I think I did a pretty decent job with it.

the vertical auto depth and airlock draining is the only issue and it would be nice if dockable on the top and not just the sides but otherwise this the best minisub ive ever used

any plans to release the reactor as a standalone powerhouse?

Not entirely sure yet, I gotta see how fire control and things like that turn out. New attack sub in development will have them of course, but we'll have to see if I'm able to effectively mount it on some of the older models.

Will you be updating your submarines with the new sonars released? Would love to see!
