Lore:
The Saw Toothed Spine Eel is a species of armoured, predatory fish from the Tr'allanga home world's sub-terrain oceans.

These eels live mainly in darker, deeper sections of the ocean caverns where less light is available; allowing it to ambush prey and use its saw like teeth to cut through their shells with ease; its diet consisting of anything it can fit its mouth around.

And much like the Reef Lurker, which it shares a long ago ancestor with; these fish are also prey; so have an exoskeleton to protect themselves and the ability to regenerate lost fins.

But unlike the Reef Lurker, they lack paralytic compounds and instead have long spines that make them difficult to attack properly and are much larger.

They also become sexually mature at 20 years old and can live for over 200 years; but their maximum lifespan is unknown.

And regarding reproduction the Spine Eel does this in a interesting way.

The mature males and females will find a large open space of water every spring and the males will try to impress the females by either swimming in unique patterns or fighting one another; each female picking the male they like.

After picking a male; they mate using a cloaca on their undersides and the pair will find a cave for the female to lay her eggs in; said eggs taking 3 months to be laid once fertilised and 8 months to hatch after being laid.

And while all that is happening; the male will hunt food for the female and himself; but after the eggs hatch the babies will stay with the parents till their around 10 years old.

But once the babies are adults and move on; the parents will still stay together and will often mate with one another multiple times throughout their lives.
