Chapayev was designed to replace the ageing Stalingrad design. Initially designed with a new Spall Liner Armor Scheme and 9 cannons, she was changed to a 8 foward cannon set-up. She has double ER guns, making her a fine bow-tanker at range. Her armor scheme was reverted to a standard 'Belt' design, common among CCG capital ships. On top of this, for closer encounters with weapon systems, she is fitted with an enhanced version of the 'Gauntlet' APS, named 'Dome'
