XCOM: Gears Tactics Class/Perk Pack [BETA]

Description
Overview:
This is my take on porting the perks and classes from Gears: Tactics perks to XCOM 2. It is not an exact port of the perks as they function in GT, since X2 environment is quite different. I have taken certain liberties with some perks and how they work, but most perks work quite similarly in spirit. More details about the perks can be found in the Readme in the mod folders.

Note that I made this a few months back and have had very little time since to polish the mod. Since I am not sure when I will have time for active modding again, I at least wanted to get this out there and encourage people to play with and adapt it as they see fit. I will link the github repo here soon as well. In the meantime, you can checkout the ReadMe.txt file included in the mod folder for a brief description of the classes and the perks

I have done a quick playthrough with the Gears Tactics classes and while they all mostly work as expected, there may be some bugs (but nothing game-breaking I hope), the localization is likely going to be all over the place and many of the parameters are not exposed to user configuration. If all this does not deter you, feel free to give this a try....

Brief Class Description:
Here is a brief overview of what the classes are. For people who cannot be bothered to open up a text file, here is a link to the skills from Gears Tactics which are mostly what the class perks are based on: https://www.gearstactics.com/game-guide/classes/

Support
The Support class is all about unlocking the power and potential of the entire squad through buffs and healing.

Primary: Assault Rifle
Secondary: Gremlin

Vanguard
The Vanguard class are fearless front-line fighters equipped to absorb more damage and draw aggression.

Primary: Bullpup
Secondary: Sword

Heavy
Bringing massive firepower able to deal with groups of targets, the Heavy is also a powerhouse when using direct fire attacks and overwatch.

Primary: Cannon
Secondary: Grenade Launcher

Scout
The Scout uses cloak and mobility to get up close and personal.

Primary: Shotgun
Secondary: Knife

Sniper
The Sniper is a deadly sharpshooter that is able to use precision shots to take out high threat targets from across the battlefield or use pistols for pretty crazy action economy.

Primary: Sniper
Secondary: pistol

Requirements:
Community Highlander, Community Promotion Screen and LW2 Secondary Weapons are hard requirements.
I have tried this mainly in a vanilla setting, but I assume this should work with LWOTC/CI as well, since it does not modify any of the framework that those mods add. Feel free to try them out and comment if there are incompatibilities to be found

Credits:
  • Splash Damage, The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios for developing and publishing Gears Tactics. I do not claim any ownership of any material in this mod which is taken/inspired from the game.
  • xylthixlm for the all the perk icons used and Ketaros for the class icons
  • The usual suspects over at the modder's discord (Iridar, robojumper, Xymanek, RustyDios, Mitzruti and countless others) for indulging, inspiring and assisting me through this and countless other small mods that will probably never see the light of day

Can you make RPGO specialisations out of this ?

Crashed for me too, probably as per Shiro comment but I have not tried to unsub from Verge.

@Zigg Price - That is not something we can particularly explain to you in brief, as it's a central part of the AML O+E project that is slowly going through every notable mod on the Workshop to establish the full, exact package load order (through a vast amount of experimentation and exploding the engine).

There is a fantastic article on X2 load orders that can be read here [robojumper.github.io]

As such, there is no definitive answer we can give you. The only thing we can do, is provide the current XcomEngine.INI the AML O+E uses to specify the package load order, which on it's own would not be helpful without editing 'every other mod it interacts with', due to the nature of potentially knocking out the LW_TUPLE or XMODBASE.

@Leyshade - What changes would need to be done? I am pretty adept, at this point, with just playing around in ini files, but I have never really tackled load order issues.
LeyShade 17 Dec, 2024 @ 9:13am
For those experiencing issues, this is a classic case of load order in the XcomEngine.ini not being specificed across the community such that this, when combined with certain other mods out of the box, will likely crash by not loading in essential packages correctly.

Unless people are willing to learn to modify the mods INI files, or, download one of the many expertly crafted pack sets that pre-configure the game to work with various modules, there is little that can be done, until either the Highlander, AML or O+E teams can complete the ouroborous job of persistently catching up to every mod and every update for every mod.
Shiro 3 Dec, 2024 @ 3:21pm
This mod is incompatible with Verge Squadmate mod.

The result of trying to load both is either an infinite load screen or the game just crashes. I'm not sure why or how that happens since those two mods should have zero overlap other than both being related to soldier classes.

I think I might have narrowed the issue to the file: "XComGearsPerkPack"
But I don't know how to open it to see for myself. I'll keep looking around and see if I can figure something out however... given that it's been nearly 2-3 years since either of those mods were updated, a fix from an amateur like me is very unlikely.

I mean, I'll try, but I can't guarantee anything because if it was easy someone smarter than me would've done it by now. :(

it's possible Proficiency is incompatible
silverleaf1 7 Apr, 2024 @ 12:46pm
@General Disarray I ran a test campaign with the Alternative Mod Launcher with just the Proficiency Classes and these classes. The game would not load. Removing this group of classes allowed the game to load. I only had these class mods in the mix, nothing else.

@TheProtoFire - do you have a copy of your mod list, we would like to cross-reference it against others to nail down possible issues this mod is causing.

Thank you.

Hello, can anyone tell me how to disable the free action stim or how to make it 1ap please?
Thanks!
