Not So Temperate Generator

Description
Not so Temperate Generator
(Previously 'Ultima Loca')

This generator creates mixed narrower & wider rivers and well-defined mountain ranges with very flat areas inbetween.

It is still WIP but functional and safe to use (lots more options and tweaks still to come).

The reason I made this was because I found the vanilla generator and other modded generators didn't create very scenic and practical maps because the transitions between highland and lowland was too gradual & 'bumpy' for my taste. Also, I wanted to have more control over rivers; especially their widths.

New Features & Changes
  • Winding rivers (v1.2)
  • Somewhat better mountain-density calculation
  • Mountain ridge curvature (v1.3)
  • Removed minimum mountain height (now fixed at 150m)
  • Wider rivers than before (v1.3). I cannot make them wider than this because then they will start to deform.
  • Bigger chance of (more) branching rivers.
  • Changed the name of the mod.

Mountains
  • Higher mountains (upto 1500m) with a more distinct transition between flatland and cliffs.
  • If you enable snow tops in the mod settings (on by default) mountain tops will be covered in snow above ~750m.
  • Control over mountain range curvature.

Rivers
  • Rivers can be much narrower and wider than in vanilla. (Keep in mind that ships cannot navigate very narrow rivers.)
  • Wider rivers are also deeper.
  • Lake generation in rivers can be disabled.
  • More rivers.
  • Curved rivers.
  • Random river widths.
  • Winding (zig-zag) rivers.

Rocks
  • Option to disable scattered rocks on the map; completely or keep them along rivers.

Trees & Forests
  • Amount of scattered forests can be set (forest density does not affect lone trees).
  • Forest density also affects the density of forests along mountain ridges.
  • When set to 0, no trees will generate at all.
  • The treeline (height) on mountains can be controlled.

TODO:
  • Scattered lakes (outside rivers).
  • Translations.
  • Mod option for more rock (mountain) textures?

Important
If you enable the snow caps option, they will also appear in the (temperate) vanilla generator and any other modded generator that uses the temperate climate.

I absolutely love this generator. The best feature for me is the flat land between the mountian ranges. Controlling river size is also outstanding. I don't try to control Mountian height specifically so I can't speak to that .. I do set mountians at low. I am so not happy with having to level everything with the standard map generators. Outstanding work. I know, you can just edit the LUA file yourself and achieve the same thing, but this works for me out of the box. Thanks.

The mountain height and rock remove parameters don't work anymore

I'm having the same problem where I'm not getting mountains. Any idea what's causing it?

Humans crowd the waterline. Look at any population density map on the planet. Can we influence city placement with that in mind?

Just what I needed :)

just wanted to add that I had seen your mod before while scrolling, but had no clue what it was. I've needed this for so long. The name change was what brought me here lol. I'm sorry you had to change it, but the new name is so much better.

"Ugly blobs of water" R exactely, what the game by default creates! I thought I am the only one hating them with all of my heart! :steamhappy:

Thank you so much. I hate and detest those damn scattered rocks on maps. Your mod is worth it just for the option to remove those things alone lol. Great work. I look forward to using it.
