USS Harnett County (LST-821) (Detailed) (MRF Collection)

Description
This composition features a complete rendering of a World War 2 era "LST" ship as used by the US Navy Mobile Riverine Forces, the HA(L)-3 Seawolves, and the UDT / SEAL teams to perform operations in support of Operation Game Warden and Operation Market Time, considered to be two of the most successful US Naval actions during the Vietnam War, patrolling Brown Water waterways and providing interdiction of VC smuggling and supply operations in the Mekong Delta region.

The USS Harnett County (LST-821) is part of the Mobile Riverine Force (MRF) and S.O.G. Prairie Fire Community Mod Collection(s) designed to enhance the history behind and experience of the Arma 3 Creator DLC: S.O.G. Prairie Fire. Be on the lookout for more mods to be added to the MRF collection soon!

Please visit the Mobile Riverine Force Association[www.mrfa.org], the Seawolf Association[seawolf.org], or the Gamewardens Association[www.tf116.org] for more information about these amazing sailors and soldiers...and if you happen to meet a Vietnam Veteran, please take a minute to shake his or her hand and say "Welcome Home". Even now, some Vietnam Veterans are only beginning to get the acknowledgement and gratitude they should have received the day they stepped foot back on U.S. soil.

To each and every Vietnam Veteran: Thank you and Welcome Home.

------------------------------

During the Vietnam War, over 50 LST’s served in Vietnam, with many of them serving in direct support of the Mobile Riverine Force, some earning as many as 15 Battle Stars. The T’s of Vietnam were awarded 395 Battle Stars, 19 Presidential Unit Citations, 48 Navy Unit Citations, and 44 Meritorious Unit Citations for their support of Operation Game Warden and Operation Market Time, considered to be two of the most successful US Naval actions during the Vietnam War, patrolling Brown Water waterways and providing interdiction of VC smuggling and supply operations in the Mekong Delta region.

Many of those who served on the rivers of Vietnam can remember these ships moving slowly up and down the rivers keeping sailors, soldiers, and airmen alike supplied with food, ammo, parts, medical support, and fuel. Like most in-country Navy units, they received very little recognition for a job well done. Most people back at home at that time didn’t even know the Navy served in-country during Vietnam, much less on the countless rivers and waterways of the Rung Sat Special Zone and the Mekong Delta.

Based off of the USS Harnett County (LST-821), US Navy Seawolves and Task Force 116 PBRs would support SEAL operations across the Mekong Delta providing Close Air Support (CAS), medevac and casevac, and insertions and extraction services when and where others couldn't or wouldn't go.

These ships were built with whatever supplies were available (and some that weren't) by extremely creative means, proving the adage that necessity is the mother of invention. Occasionally, the Navy tradition of "comshaw" was used in the liberation and acquisition of equipment and supplies that couldn't be purchased or traded for. Keep an eye out for Easter eggs and references to real world facts about the Brown Water Navy across the ship!

This composition makes heavy use of setObjectScale, however it is completely multiplayer compatible.
You'll notice it looks very different when placed in the editor, all objects will be scaled upon mission load.

I never expected to see this represented in game. Do you know of any of the assault craft models that would be good with this? Ideally, the Armored Troop Carrier [en.wikipedia.org] but I'd definitely take anything period appropriate.

OK, that's what I assumed. Even though this isn't for me, it's still really cool, nice work.

@stburr91 indeed it is - unfortunately there really isn't an LST available that fits the role outside of CUP's. We're definitely looking into options though, as CUP is obviously a big download if it isn't something you have already

I'm sorry to be that guy, but I really liked this until I saw all the CUP mod requirements. Is this a CUP ship, and that's why it has the CUP requirements?
