ESA Sargus Nuclear Power Plant [Destroyed]

n the year 2286, in the Elenarian Empire, the Sargus nuclear power plant's main reactor went critical and exploded. The ESA immediately called the emergency services, the first at the scene were the power plant's local unit. Unfortunately, this was insufficient. In less than an hour, help arrived at the scene; the fire fighters and medic were equipped with protective gear but that was not going to help much as they were walking into the doors of an exposed and burning nuclear reactor.

The reactor in Sargus NPP was an AQM-97 heavy duty nuclear reactor. It was said that if a reactor of this kind explodes, it would destroy a planet. Not from the explosion but from the fumes and chemicals it spews out into the air and any surrounding water bodies, but this would only happen if the reactor was left uncontained for over two months.

Clearly, this was unacceptable.

2 Days later the ESA sent a distress signal to the Colonial Alliance - the ESA's more technologically advanced neighbor - asking for aid. Due to poor relations, the Elenarians expected little or no help. To their surprise, hours later a response was received in the form of the CAHS-Endurance - a supercarrier the Navy had converted into a gargantuan hospital ship. Endurance remained in low orbit over the power plant and city, deploying her complement of field hospitals and medical shuttles, saving countless lives in a shocking display of cooperation.

After all the injured were evacuated from the power plant and the surrounding area, the ESA began trying to put the fire out with other methods, namely with sand, soil and gravel. The strategy worked, and after the fire was out the cleaning process of the plant began - the roof had to be cleared of debris and waste. The reactor was then injected with a large supply of liquid nitrogen in order to cool it down and stop the radioactive lava known as corium, later a sarcophagus would be made to contain the radioactive spread and most likely the abandoning of Sargus nuclear power plant.

Investigation was unable to determine the cause of the explosion but a count determined that over 27,000 people died during the accident, with 12,000 more following for various reasons. This count included Elenarian civilians and rescue personnel from both the ESA and Endurance.

After this disaster, the ESA would look into developing new methods of power generation that did not involve nuclear reactors so that the Sargus Catastrophe could be avoided in future.
