The Falcon and the Eagle - Alternate History Cold War Factions

Description
This modification contains several factions from an alternative history Cold War, between the United States and Nazi Germany. The current release focuses on the island nation of Sahrani and its ongoing civil war, but future updates are planned to include Altis, Russia, and more!

Lore

An iron curtain has fallen across the continent of Europe. Against all odds, the German Reich has emerged victorious in Europe, driving the Allies from Europe's shores and has broken the spine of the Russian nation. Its ally Japan however, did not find such success, falling in 1946 after multiple nuclear bombings and a bloody ground invasion. Outside of Europe, the remaining democracies rally behind the United States and the United Kingdom to contain the spread of fascism.

Release 2: "The East Wind"

BLUFOR:

Kingdom of Sahrani:

A former British colony in the Atlantic Ocean, the island nation of the Kingdom of Sahrani has been ruled by the Saharni Royal Family since its independence in 1898. While officially a parliamentary monarchy, the newly crowned Monarch King Joseph II has abused royal prerogatives to enrich himself and his family, while eroding the nation's democratic systems. This has caused considerable unrest within the military and populace, which has culminated in a civil war against fascist elements of the military, as well as a growing communist insurgency in the north.

Military Assistance Command, Sahrani:

The Military Assistance Command, Sahrani (MACS) was created in response to the increased U.S. deployments to the Kingdom of Sahrani, the deployments themselves caused by the outbreak of Civil War after an attempted military coup, where the U.S. Embassy came under fire from anti-government forces. U.S forces mainly serve as advisors or provide training to Sahrani forces. However, due to Sahrani military incompetence, especially against forces of the Legion Grief, MACS forces have been deployed in direct combat operations against Front and Legion Grief forces.

British Forces Altis:

British Forces Altis comprises Army, Royal Air Force, and Navy stationed, or more accurately used to be stationed, on the former Dominion of Altis and Stratis. Ordered to withdraw after a tense standoff between themselves and the native Altian garrison, they are in the midst of evacuating troops and material, as well as decommissioning the equipment they cannot afford to bring with them.

Altian Aero Club:
Founded in 1916 by British Altian aristocrats awestruck by the potential of the airplane, the Altian Aero Club has played an instrumental role in construction of airfields across Altis and Stratis in the interwar years. With Altis overtaken by an unwelcoming government intent on cozying up with the Italians, the British have begun to use the AAC as a front for smuggling weapons and operatives in hopes of setting the groundwork for an overthrow of the unfriendly Altian government.

OPFOR:

National Salvation Front of Sahrani:

The National Salvation Front of Sahrani began as an idea in the mind of disgruntled Sahrani officers, almost all veterans of the Second World War. Sahrani, although independent from the British for decades, fought alongside its former overlord in the war. Sahrani losses were devastating, over 20% of all military age men were either wounded or killed from 1939-1944. Supporters of the National Salvation Front place blame in the hands of the Royal Family, claiming they sold an entire generation of Sahrani men to the English and Americans. They place their trust in the German system, believing a fascist state will remove the traitorous Royal Family, and ensure a strong and independent Sahrani for decades to come.

Legion Grief:

The Salvation Front's attempted coup and the beginning of civil war proved a welcome surprise for the Reich. German support began to flow into Sahrani, at first only in material form. However, after months of recruitment and training, the Griffin Legion was ready to be shipped to Sahrani.

INDFOR:

Soldaty Bez Granits:

Initially formed from Russian veterans seeking to make a living in the chaotic remains of the Soviet Union, Soldaty Bez Granits, or Soldiers Without Borders has grown into an international operation. Veterans of Soviet, American, British, and many other armies have taken up arms under its flag. Soldaty Bez Granits will fight for any who can afford it, save for Germany and its Axis allies. Even money cannot sway these mercenaries to fight alongside their hated enemy.

Currently, Soldaty Bez Granits finds itself under the employ of the Popular Front of Sahrani. How this relatively small insurgency has managed to afford them is a mystery, although CIA front Air America has been observed dropping off supplies and men near suspected mercenary and insurgent camps.

Popular Front of Sahrani:

The northern region of Sahrani had always been a hotbed of socialist activity. Miners and industrial workers have fought Sahrani authorities for better pay and working conditions for decades. Their struggle did bear some fruit in the 1930s, King Orlando I recognized the workers' right to unionize and strike to prevent a mass uprising. However, with the ascension of King Joseph II, these rights have been taken away. King Joseph II has used the Royal Guard to violently break up strikes, and when the Sahrani Labour Party was banned and its MPs arrested, the workers of the north knew strikes, protests, and campaigning would not bring them freedom. Their plans were accelerated when the National Salvation Front launched their coup and the civil war began.

Republic of Altis and Stratis:
An island jostled between colonial powers since the dawn of time, the island nation of Altis and Stratis has finally asserted its independence from its latest colonial master, the British. Although granted Home Rule in 1948, many Altians desired to sever ties completely, leading to the victory of the Altian Nationalist Party, led by Alexis Akhanteros, a veteran of WWII. The Governor of Altis attempted to order the Royal Altian Rifles depose Akhanteros, however they refused and instead surrounded British military installations on the islands, leading to a tense standoff.

The British blinked, and agreed to withdraw military forces and grant Altis independence. Since then, the Italians have offered protection and military assistance in exchange for basing rights. Despite Altis's newfound freedom, they may end up trading one master for another with Italy, and furthermore, rumors of British clandestine operatives and a potential invasion loom over the fledgling nation.

Italian Empire:
A recent addition to Italy's sphere of influence is the former colony of Altis. While British troops slowly begin withdrawing from the island nation, Italian forces have begun to take their place. Altis's independence is a major boon for Italy's strategic position, a major foothold in the central Mediterranean that has even allowed them to begin harassing Fortress Malta.

Do you plan to give the British, German and Italian vehicles and aircraft proper insignia? Because a lot of their vehicles and aircraft have soviet markings and symbols.

@Retroburger1984 I based the name off of the irl MACV [en.wikipedia.org] from the Vietnam War. I thought about adding Unsung but I don't want the modlist to grow too large. A proper German faction will probably look like the current Legion Grief faction but with a different camo and a larger pool of units. Italy will probably use their irl camo from the 60s bc its in the GM retex mod, but with different helmets, rifles and vehicles because a lot of their 60s equipment were U.S. equipment or derivatives and wouldn't make sense.

Shouldn't it just be called the "United States Military Assistance Command" and also have Unsung as a requirement? Also how do you plan to do the Germans and Italians?

My reputation precedes me. Thank you!

@Retroburger1984 The U.S. is already represented as the Military Assistance Command Sahrani, all in all they don't diverge too heavily from real-life Cold War USA in the early 60s so MACS and other Unsung/SOG:PF factions probably could represent U.S. forces in general. The U.K., along with Altis and Italy are planned for the next update.

@Pheasant-One Thanks for the comment! Big fan of your screenshots btw
