@REV4666: I wish there was a tool that let you do gradients. Nah, you gotta do it ALL by hand.

I've tried doing a gradient a couple of times in the past, it's an absolute PITA. The best process I used involved making a gradient in GIMP on a tiny canvas, i.e. 16x16 or so and ink dropping the colors 1 at a time to get the hex values. Then manually inputting those into SE's palette to get like colors.

OP's is even better though - on top of the gradient they randomized every other block. That's manual work on top of manual work.
