　Series 107 trains were built by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) from 1988 to 1991 by converting parts of old express trains, Series 165, that had been scrapped. They were used for local transportation in the suburban area of Tokyo, and after being retired in 2017, some of them were transferred to neighboring private railway companies and are still in service.
