Known for the DeLorean DMC-12, with its iconic gull-wing doors, the DeLorean Motor Company was in business for only eight years, from 1975-1982. Founded in Detroit, Michigan by former General Motors executive John DeLorean, the company sought to open its first plant in an area with high unemployment, eventually settling on the village of Dunmurry in Northern Ireland.

After the DeLorean Motor Company's demise, entrepreneur Stephen Wynne acquired its remaining parts and inventory and started a new company, using the same name, to support DeLorean owners. Estimates put the number of DeLorean vehicles still on the road at well over half the 9,000 originally built, and there is an active DeLorean enthusiast community.
