Description
Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions, a division of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, presents the Mole Moon Miner mk2, a vanilla small-grid design without mods, and contains no rotors or pistons making it a perfect survival-ready solution for large mining projects. This revised version of the original Mole Moon Miner includes a complete revision to the cargo and thruster design to enable installation of a large hydrogen tank in the place of the numerous less efficient small hydrogen tanks giving this miner greater range and operational time, as well as increased cargo capacity (+17%) over the original design. Four drills were added for increased ore uptake speed and to allow clearance for the large hydrogen thrusters. Included also, are two Gatling guns for defense in hostile regions.

Designed as a high-capacity vertical miner, the Mole Moon Miner extracts ores effortlessly with its 16 optimally-spaced drills, automatically ejecting waste stone, and transports ore in 4 large and 4 medium cargo containers. Power is supplied by 4 large batteries. Utilizing hydrogen thrusters, the Mole Moon Miner mk2 operates equally well in space and on planets, but with restricted ore capacity for planetary gravity greater than 1.0g. These features make the Mole Moon Miner mk2 a perfect solution for the player who needs to get to an ore deposit, quickly extract a large quantity of ore, and get back home again.

NO MODS, NO ROTORS/PISTONS; SURVIVAL READY AND PROJECTOR BUILDABLE!

NOTES FOR BUILDING WITH A PROJECTOR IN SURVIVAL
(See the last picture for the projector's configuration.)
1. Build a rotor frame on a powered grid; remove the large-grid rotor head and replace with a small-grid rotor head and lock rotation.
2. Stack 5 armor blocks, minimum, vertically atop the small-grid rotor head to provide sufficient clearance for building the miner.
3. Build a small-grid projector on top of the topmost armor block; for consistency, rename the projector to be "MM - Projector".
4. Load the blueprint into the projector; click on the setting to retain the blueprint after construction is complete.
5. Build the blueprint.
6. When completed, grind away the small-grid rotor head, armor blocks, and rotor frame, leaving the projector in place for future repairs.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Built this in survival and using it now and really enjoy it. Some tips for piloting:

While it guzzles Hydroden super fast when flying around with dampeners on, all the extra thrust really helps with stopping power and load capacity. You GREATLY reduce hydrogen consumption in this ship doing short bursts with dampeners off in transit and triggering dampeners to stop the ship. Also, when you mine a shaft downwards, just cycle turning dampeners off and back on with the AutoLevel triggered to avoid the unnecessary fuel consumption from down thrust and extra up thrust to brake.

Also, consider creating a drills group and hotkey to hold them on when you've struck ore. I've found it helpful to keep the ship drilling with dampers off and gravity pushing it down so when needed, I can get out of the cockpit to inspect/watch externally while it grinds away.

Yeah, that's the downside.

The only DLC is the industrial cockpit that's from the first Decorative Pack. It should be a vanilla game block.

What is the DLC that is needed?
Spaceman Spiff  [author] 3 Aug, 2022 @ 2:45pm
Yeah. I have a series of these things that use a 12-drill chassis, but my changeover to using the large forward/backward hydrogen thrusters necessitated adding another in each corner to give me more clearance.

That's a lotta drillpower.
