Sooo, I always felt like towers in this game were close to useless and I decided to fix it, making them better.

1. Gun Battery Tower / Starfort cannons
Increased rate of fire, vaguely matching Parrot's gun RPM. Also increased damage, making them somewhat more useful
2. Gatling Gun Tower
Increased rate of fire to match its real prototype. Some might say it's OP, but I think it finally makes researching and building it somewhat good investment. Towers' positions are still fixed, so it's not that OP, but it'll let you free some troops up for offensives instead of pacifiying newly conquered town
3. Rifle Towers have replaced Matchlock Towers in Boshin era. They have a higher rate of fire, than can be further increased by its special ability. I would've gone for historic/real RPM as of Snider rifle, but in this case these towers would've been useless. So I slightly increased their rof, since I can't add new firing points to the towers. Just imagine, that there are shooters with multiple rifles to shoot and loaders, who load discharged rifles
4. Archery Tower
Also increased rate of fire, read paragraph 3 why is it so
5. Bonus
High level castles in Sengoku period now have Matchlock Towers instead of Archery Towers. This comes at a cost of need of researching Gunpowder Mastery tech. But don't worry, this now takes 26 turns instead of default 60. Boshin era lvl 4-6 castles will also have Matchlock Towers instead of Archery ones as default. This is because the game is hardcoded and it was the only option I had.

Compatibility:
Not compatible with the mods, that change battleterrain/presets, buildings and technologies affiliated db tables, not compatible with the mods, that modify sounds_packed, compatible with everything else. Also this mod includes my sound fix.

I also edited encyclopedia entries for more immersion

1. As I remember, they do
2. It doesn't affect autoresolve, I never touched those tables and Idk it it's possible to tweak balance there
3. There is no such version, because I had to hide matchlock towers behind lvl 4 castle update and it would've sucked not being able to build lvl 4 forts long into the game, after you conquered almost all of Japan

Great idea, in fact the best mod regarding tower defence overhaul I have come across.
1. Do the archery towers change for the sengoku/rots campaigns aswell ? (I think so but wanted to be sure)
2. Do the increased stats of the tower defences/star fort cannons get accounted for when auto resolving assaults ? (I guess not bc I cant imagine how you would manage that)
3. Would it be possible to get a version that doesnt decrease the research time for Gunpowder Mastery? In my opinion this makes matchlock units available to early
