Description
The Borshchov House in Kostroma is an architectural monument of the classical era, one of the largest estates in the city in the first quarter of the XIX century, which has an extremely important urban planning significance in the development of the center. Architect N. I. Metlin. In Kostroma, Lieutenant General S. S. Borshchov owned an old manor house with wooden houses, located on the central Yekaterinoslav (now Susaninskaya) square. After the general's retirement in 1819, he began the construction of a stone wing, and then in 1824, according to the project of the provincial architect N. I. Metlin, a majestic mansion in the style of classicism was erected. It is known that Nicholas I stayed there, as well as his son, heir to the throne Alexander II with his tutor, the poet V. A. Zhukovsky, during a visit to Kostroma in 1834.
