Description
Kings Island's (2nd) most infamous ride, The Bat! Built in 1981, The Bat was billed as the world's first suspended coaster and was a smash hit among guests. Unfortunately, the ride was plagued with mechanical issues, and was closed after only two years. Then, in 1987, the Bat was replaced by Vortex, which reused the station. In 1993, Kings Island would debut their second attempt at a major suspended coaster, this time being themed to Top Gun due to Paramount buying the park. In 2014, a few years after Cedar Fair bought the park and renamed it to Flight Deck, Kings Island announced that they'd be bringing back The Bat in spirit by renaming the current suspended yet again. The repainted it to black and orange, and renamed it The Bat.

When I was 11 years old, I remember being fascinated by the way the cars swayed back and forth along the track. I was fortunate to have been able to ride it quite a few times before it was gone. Little did I know that I was riding a part of history and innovation.

Summer of 1993 in Houston Texas, Six Flag Astroworld opened "Batman the Escape". It was a stand-up coaster and a lot of fun to ride. I was 10 years old at the time. Astroworld shutdown about 19 years ago I think. Of course if the park were still around, I'd be there every year. If anybody knows the year it was for sure, please post when it was.

Nice work! I am recreating an old Arrow at the moment (Orient Express). Always good to see an Arrow! My 3 favs: Orient Express, EXT Extreme Roller both stand up and sit down, and Loch Ness Monster. Great build! :steamhappy:

I rode this coaster the first week it opened at Kings Island, the lines were 3 hours long and there was no guarantee you would actually get to ride as it kept breaking down. They would give you the option to wait in line while they fixed it so we moved up quite rapidly since many people got tired and gave up. We finally did get to ride though it was one of only a few rides we had that day. The coaster was fun but for me not fun enough to have missed so many other good rides. Brings back a bit of nostalgia seeing it reproduced here. I love the inclusion of the original ad for it as well! Thanks!:steamhappy:
