Description
The Illustris is the second ship to bear this name and is a very large destroyer/flotilla leader. It is designed primarily for surface combat and equipped with five twin 138mm dual purpose guns giving it potent anti-air capabilities as well. The emphasis on anti-surface duties is reflected in it's sensor kit specializing in surface warfare. As part of its anti-surface suite, it also features three quintuple torpedo launchers for a even deadlier opening salvo. The Illustris is the first to be equipped with deep diving guided torpedoes enabling it to be used for anti-submarine duties. This was the result of years of development in order to replace the obsolete Alguhas depth charge throwers. The inability of the Alguhas to engage at greater ranges was considered a major detriment to a ship's survival. Depth charges also proved inadequate against ever increasing speeds of modern submarines.

The ship is notable for it's surprisingly good stability and freeboard despite its heavy armament. The long and slender hull compared to similarly long light cruisers allow it to boast unparalleled high speed of 45 knots. However, with only a single rudder unlike the Uraeus class; it has a large turning circle. The operational range of the destroyer also just about meet the minimal requirement demanded by the navy, capable of traveling as far as 6001 km.

The Illustris is the navy's attempt at "bringing balance to the region." and has became the ship's motto. The initial implication was that the destroyer could be quickly built while bringing substantial firepower in response to the ever growing navies in the region. Despite the Khertland navy on paper still has a sizable fleet, most of it is unfit for service and closer to 'reserve' conditions than 'active service' as it is indicated on paper. Ultimately the Illustris could not fill the capability gap due to its lack of protection.

On April 17, 2025, the navy conducted its first major reorganization since the modernization program began. Up until this point, the fleet of modern ships were too small and so was concentrated within the Home Fleet as a reaction force to defend the main island. The other fleets were deactivated one by one as old ships were decommissioned. However, with the mass production of the Uriel-class, the navy can finally split its forces into separate groups. This involved two Scouting Groups, two Patrol Groups, and six Garrison Forces. Yet, the main force was still concentrated within the Home Fleet. The Home Fleet consists of the 1st Surface Action Group, The Interdiction Force, 1st Patrol Group, and Garrison Force I. KNS Illustris and her sister ships were all called back to form the new Interdiction Force together with KNS Aishmail and the KNS Sivantse. Individually, these destroyers are comparable in firepower as typical light cruisers except capable of remarkably high speeds. This made them an excellent fast reaction force and along with the 1st Surface Action Group, is considered to be Khertland's premiere surface combatants.

-Fixed speed, updated reduced speed to 18 m/s (35 knots) from 45 knots. Returned to 45 knots (23 m/s) and increased resource storage as a result to compensate higher fuel consumption. Excess storage meant range increased to 6043 km endurance.
