---BACKGROUND
An episode of the Suomussalmi Battle, that occured during the Winter War (November 1939 to Mars 1940).

For 4 months, Finland defended itself as best as it could against the invading Soviet Union, at the beginning of WW2.

Despite a much smaller amount of troops, the Finnish army managed to make important losses to its opponent, thanks to a wise guerilla defense strategy, well knowledge of terrain, a good preparation and use of ressources, a strong will to fight and morale.

At the same time, the early-war Red Army still suffers from 30s' Stalin's purges of high-ranked officers. The Soviet industry, despite a significant increase during the 30s', did not reach yet its maximum potential. Plus, the Soviet Union's initial priority was rather to control deeper in-lands territory around Leningrad, and their efforts focused on the Mannerheim line, next to the South border.

The Finnish governement had to give approx 10% of the territory to the Soviet union (Treaty of Moscow, 12th of March 1940), for an "Interim Peace" that would last just one year...

The mission was designed to be played with the Finnish Army. The Push-the-Frontline Mission Mode does not allow to play with USSR very long.
Mission successfully finished in Normal Difficulty Level.
There are 7 phases, on a small (500 x 500 km²) but very intense (-24° Celsius) map !
Small (but willingful) Finnish custom AT (with AT Mines) and Assault squads, skiing over frozen swamps, jumping out of the woods, attacking Soviet early-war vehicles's columns, and then vanishing into the morning white fog.
Soviet Union has a good range of early-war tanks and vehicles. Some "line" infantry companies. And NKVD political Police units.

---CONTEXTE
Un épisode de la bataille de Suomussalmi, qui s'est déroulé pendant la Guerre d'Hiver (Novembre 1939 à Mars 1940).

Pendant 4 mois, la Finlande s'est défendue du mieux qu'elle le pouvait contre l'Union Soviétique qui l'envahissait, au début de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale.

Malgré un volume de troupes plus réduit, l'armée finlandaise put infliger de lourdes pertes à son opposant, grâce à une ingénieuse stratégie défensive de guérilla, à une connaissance du terrain supérieure, une bonne préparation et utilisation des ressources, une volonté forte de combattre et un meilleur moral.

Dans le même temps, l'Armée Rouge du début de la guerre souffre toujours des purges staliniennes des années 30 dans les rangs des officiers. L'industrie soviétique, malgré une croissance remarquable depuis 1930, n'a pas encore atteint son plein potentiel. De plus, la priorité initiale de l'URSS était plutôt de contrôler l'arrière-pays autour de Leningrad, et ses efforts se concentrèrent sur la ligne Mannerheim, à la frontière finlandaise Sud.

Le gouvernement finlandais eut à céder environ 10% de son territoire (Traité de Moscou, 12 Mars 1940) pour une "Grande Trêve", qui ne durerait qu'à peu près un an...

Cette Mission a été conçu pour être jouée avec l'armée Finlandaise. Le Mode Push-the-Frontline empêche de jouer très longtemps avec l'URSS.
Mission achevée avec succès en Difficulté Normale.
Il y a 7 phases, situées sur une carte petite (500 x 500 km²) mais très intense (à -24° degrés) !
Petites (mais déterminées) unités antichar Finlandaises et sections d'assaut, skiant à travers des marécages gelés, sortant du bois, attaquant les colonnes de véhicules soviétiques, et s'évanouissant ensuite dans la brume froide matinale.
L'Union Soviétique possède un choix de plusieurs tanks et véhicules du début de la guerre. Des unités d'infanterie "de ligne", de qualité inégale. Et la police politique du NKVD.
