Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon(BP5)

レガシィ（LEGACY）は、SUBARU（旧・富士重工業）が生産・販売している高級スペシャリティセダン、および生産・販売していたステーションワゴンである。ここではBP5型ツーリングワゴンについて解説する。

欧州市場への対応、衝突安全性能向上のため、ボディの全幅を先代より35mm増やしている。これにより3代目まで維持していた5ナンバーサイズボディは3ナンバーサイズとなった。このサイズ拡幅ととも3代目に比し質感を増した内外装のデザイン、ATの5速化等によって、プレミアム性をより一層高めた。

このモデルより生産が日本とアメリカの2か国体制となる。ボディ剛性の向上、安全装備の充実、ターボ車および6気筒車のATの5速化を図りながら、アルミニウム等の軽量パーツや高張力鋼板を各所に導入し、3代目と比してグレードによっては100kg近くの軽量化を達成している。

この型式から日本国内向けモデルは全て等長エキゾーストマニホールドを採用したため、独特な排気音（通称ボクサーサウンド）は消滅してしまったが、限定モデルのアウトバック2.5XTのみ不等長エキゾーストマニホールドとシングルスクロールターボの組み合わせを採用した日本国外向けEJ25ターボエンジンを転用したため、ボクサーサウンドを聞くことができる。

The overall width of the body has been increased by 35mm compared to the previous model in order to respond to the European market and improve collision safety performance. As a result, the 5 number size body that had been maintained until the 3rd generation became the 3 number size. Along with this expansion in size, the interior and exterior design has more texture than the third generation, and the 5-speed AT has further enhanced premiumness.

From this model, production will be in two countries, Japan and the United States. While improving body rigidity, enhancing safety equipment, and increasing the 5-speed AT for turbo cars and 6-cylinder cars, we introduced lightweight parts such as aluminum and high-tensile steel plates in various places, and compared to the third generation, depending on the grade A weight reduction of nearly 100 kg has been achieved.

From this model, all models for the Japanese market adopted an equal length exhaust manifold, so the unique exhaust sound (commonly known as a boxer sound) disappeared, but only the limited model Outback 2.5XT has an unequal length exhaust manifold and a single scroll turbo. Which uses a combination of You can hear the boxer sound because the EJ25 turbo engine for the Japanese market.
