Introducing the ‘Xebon’ Remastered - Battlecarrier MK2, an entry into Xocliws ‘Xebon Retrofit’ Challenge.


- Description:

The Xebon is a Space Capable Battlecruiser-Carrier hybrid design. Power is generated by 6 large reactors, and stored in X batteries situated throughout the ship. 6 jump drives are featured, allowing for a total jump range of 12,000 km.

1 Primary hangar, 1 Auxiliary Hangar, 2 Launch Tubes, and 1 Bow mounted Cargo Bay are featured in the design. Interior rooms include; a Bridge, CIC, Flight Control Deck, 2 Reactor Rooms, a Medibay, Armoury, Lounge, Briefing Room, Barracks, Brig, Assembly Room, 2 Jump Drive Control Rooms, and 2 Storage Rooms.

The vessel bares an armament of 12 Salvo Firing Rocket Launchers, 10 Missile Turrets, 22 Assault Cannons, 7 Gatling Turrets and 6 Artillery Turrets and is able to carry up to 33 mid-sized fighters/auxiliary craft internally, as well as 1 light warship in the rear drop bay.

- Lore:

After 8 years of loyal and unyielding service to the cause, the White Team saw fit to withdraw all active Gen. 1 Xebons from service, in preparation for a new type of capital ship, capable of matching, and perhaps surpassing the original battlecruiser’s strength, with an all new arsenal of developments.

Standing before you is one of many proposed designs; reworked by ‘Trespass’ shipyards, to match the might of the Reds and Blues, with the utmost respect for the original fuselage. In light of recent upgrades to fighter technology, many of the outdated weapon mounts have been ripped out to make room for greater numbers of fighters. This has resulted in a classification change to ‘Battlecarrier’, in order to match its new capabilities.

With the enemy getting bolder and bolder with every passing day, we believe it is vital to be on the forefront in acting on, and deterring threats as fast as possible, in as many locations as possible. With only a few of these new vessels, we would possess a force projection capacity previously unheard of - an advantage that may prove vital in the years to come…


- Build Process:

When tasked with redesigning the Xebon, I didn’t just want to make a slight redesign, I wanted to fully re-imagine how the Xebon may function when put in with the latest KSWH WF2 designs. Obviously, this meant changing the thrust pack, armour, and armament to fit with new standards, but more radically, I decided to give it as large of a hangar space as I physically could without ruining the rest of the interior. This led to the addition of a Rear Hangar, Side Hangar doors connecting to the original, and a bow mounted cargo bay.

When designing the interior, I had many ideas for what may work best. I am not the best at building interiors, and have never had to create anything for a ship that large, alone. So I decided to take some design inspiration from the WF2 red ships interior, as well as the RCSP Legacy by Venom415 - a similarly sized and purposed ship that does the inside excellently. From this, came a layout that didn’t look too confusing to me, but since the downloader hasn’t been staring at it for 40 hours all rooms have been labelled to assure they get less lost.

For the colour scheme and lighting, I tried to remain as loyal to both the source material and new standards as possible. The black now uses a corrugated skin as it is easier on the eyes, and the dark grey has been changed to a lighter shade in order to match the WF2 vessels a bit better. White on its own is very hard to make work correctly as it is very bright, and quite plain. To combat this, I slightly lowered the value and fabricated a scaled up version of the old heavy armour skin - in homage to that style, and because I completely ripped out the heavy armour.


- Authors Notes:

Overall I have really enjoyed this challenge, and out of it has come perhaps one of my best work to date. By far the biggest time sink into this was the interior, probably taking up 60-70% of the total number of hours put in (which will remain redacted for the sake of my dignity).

The hardest part of this challenge for me was probably knowing when to stop. With something this big, and this important, there's a pressure to make it as near to perfect as possible even though it could have been ‘good enough’ 20 hours earlier.

Regardless of what the title says, to many this game is an art palette not survival, and it can often feel like nothing you do will ever be good enough. If you are ever in the same boat, I encourage you to stop, and take a day or two before coming back again, and make sure when you do, you’re doing it because you find it fun, and you’re getting enjoyment out of it, not because you feel obliged to.

not a bad idea.. Might i make a suggestion on the front bit of the ship, make it a little wider so an escape craft/ "captains" private ship to be launched out the front?

Alot of the main weapons arent connected to the conveyor system, and theres no oxygen tanks.
its a beautiful ship, but getting around is so bothersome

ill be honest with ya... this ship for some reason looks smaller than it actually is. because this thing is massive lol. also quick question do you have a version of this thing when it was just its armor on the outside?

Whips Salvo, and Auto Door and Airlock are the only scripts on the ship. Also watch out for the reactors as they have subgrids - good luck
