Ollie's Invisible Walls

Description

Left building has a freezing interior, and is indoors. Right building has nothing invisible, and has the same temp as the outdoors. Gif for shadow comparison.

Invisible walls to get the looks of outdoors with the stats of indoors.



I liked OwlChemist's mod but I don't care about whether or not pawns can fight through them, and I didn't want to go into Dev Godmode every time I build these 'cause I'm gonna build a lot of them. I tried customizing their mod just for me but I couldn't figure out how to make it show up without dev mode so I just literally made an entire mod instead hahahaha.

This mod basically lets you make and designate rooms as if you were placing a normal wall/door with all the same stats, as in like temperature and line of sight and cover effectiveness blah blah blah all that stuff. Just literally imagine the vanilla walls and doors, but it's invisible.

In the architect menu it looks like a normal wood/stone wall because I couldn't be arsed to make a custom UI for that and it's called 'ghost wall' and 'ghost door' in game because I thought that was funny.

oh yeah uh you can build the walls but you gotta make the floor under them first, I could fix that. I should fix that. uhh. I fixed it.

Oh yeah if anyone knows how to make the door open instantly lemme know how and I'll credit you :)

Oh yeah like 99% of the things from the images (excluding gif) is stuff from Oskar Potocki's mods, mostly the factions expanded- classic. None of that is in the mod. It's just the invisible walls. And the cyan walls aren't in the mod either that's just a representation of where I placed the stuff in the other screenshot.

If you want to be able to place the walls over buildings, QraTz wrote a comment with how to edit the code that way. That's so cool. QraTz is so cool we love QraTz

What you don't see is what you get.

Updated this for 1.6 and also added UI icons that differentiate it from normal walls :eaglegrin:

i have an opening at the front of my base but they refuse to go in it, they only mine my walls

yea it's just a normal wall but it's got an invisible texture - raiders will notice it and mine it.

unrelated to my mod: raiders will mine through your walls no matter what if there's no free path into your base, so having a front gateway with the door open is what lures the raiders towards your entrance if that's what you're thinking about maybe

do raiders notice this wall and try to mine it? i need a mod to fix my walls because it dosent matter how thicc i make them raiders will just mine through it.

nvm, adding <isEdifice>false</isEdifice> under the <building> tab on the defs fix it to my liking, sharing to anyone interested :steamhappy:

i wish it could be placed over other buildings, like if it was a cable what block pathfinding, so i could make artificial paths for my pawns to follow
