Colt XM177 or GAU-5/A aka Colt Commando from CoD: Black Ops

Cold War XM4 at home:

Early "Commando" carbine version of the classic American M16 rifle. Seen service in Vietnam. Just like the M16 itself it went through many iterations which brought improvements such as the forward assist. Paved the way for what would become the M4A1.


This is as close as one can get to replicating the BOCW XM4 without making custom animations or porting them from the game and even then you should be on good terms with some GMod addon creators to get at least the model from. The modding community is friendly and helpful, and together they prolong the games' longevity, add variety to them, fix issues, invent stuff. If you nudge them the wrong way, you might get a bad impression, but that's entirely your problem. It is never too late to start over and become a part of this society unless you're a filthy, thieving, lying, narcissistic, foul-mouthed son of a~

Where was I, ah yes, the model. I took some liberties with the Commando from the first Blops. The XM4 in BOCW is mostly a dead ringer for the OG model with a few additions (and a few thousand extra polygons, I s'pose), so it wasn't too much of a task to replicate one with old assets. The Troy rear sight is no longer backwards (does it even matter?), the receiver has a two-tone finish, the sling is olive drab by default (like a real US GI sling), the dust cover has a "this is my rifle" engraving (complete with a custom-made normal map), the magazine has some red tape on it (and I gave the magazine a proper shape), and there is an adorable little MACV-SOG flag on the sling. Still, I had to use the M16 receiver instead of Commando's as it wasn't fully modeled unlike the M16. Integrity.

Since the basic skin has features like the Skin 2 of the default AK (green/black two-tone) and the Skin 2 of the default M16 (red tape on the mag), I used the "clean" M16 texture for the mod's Skin 2 in a weird reversal. As for the Skin 3, I tried making it similar to the one on Bill's corpse, with "Ice" camo on the receiver and darker furniture.
