Faces don't really look that improved, but it'd help if they had normal maps and stuff to help them react better to lighting and help accentuate detail. Otherwise, they look flat and it doesn't make them look better than usual.
By the way, in my experience with stuff in Gmod, if phong and rimlighting is enabled on a material, it needs a normal map. Otherwise, turning on phong on the mat does nothing. If a texture doesn't have a normal map, you can usually provide it with a blank color normal map and it'll work. I assume some other material parameters may also work the same way.

No difference whatsoever. I compared also the Comparison images you uploaded.
Well, that's the easiest way to check with Dr. Kleiner's laboratory map. There is also a miniature teleport model with a cactus in it. I painted new send-receive buttons for its texture, they look crisp, in the original they are very pixelated.
Try running with and without the mod alternately, looking at the same places to see the difference.
It is possible that you installed the mod incorrectly. What is the full path to the "Custom" folder?
Corrected.
Already done. The main file now contains all available updates at the moment. Enjoy!
Seems inefficient.
