Mining on Pertam can be dangerous even when traditional methods work well. Almost half of all coal mines go wrong due to unstable underground conditions. This happens when coal isn't mined correctly or at high speeds. It can also happen when access tunnels aren't properly sealed to prevent air leaks. When this happens, air as well as dust and soil particles escape the mine.

Mining is an old method of extracting valuable resources from the earth of Pertam but traditional methods don't always work well enough to justify their risks. Extreme forms of mining are currently being experimented with by corporations as potential profit generators. However, no one knows exactly how effective these new techniques will be compared to traditional ones. Mining doesn't have to be dangerous but it needs to be done safely if it wants to succeed in today's Pertam.
