Chicago, North Shore, and Milwaukee Interurbans

Description
Chicago, North Shore, and Milwaukee Interurbans

The Chicago, North Shore, and Milwaukee Railroad, also known as the "North Shore Line", was an interurban railroad connecting its namesake locations, the city of Chicago, its northern suburbs along the "north shore" of Lake Michigan, and the city of Milwaukee. Along this route, the railroad provided mostly passenger services, but several businesses and industries had freight service provided by the railroad.

While the earliest beginnings of the railroad appeared in 1895, the name "North Shore Line" first appeared in 1916. The right-of-way used by the railroad was quite diverse; it reached central Chicago via the "Loop" elevated tracks, used recessed and high-speed tracks connecting the suburbs, and negotiated the streets of Milwaukee to its northern terminal. During the golden age of the railroad, they offered luxurious parlor cars and dining services, including on their named train the Gold Coast Limited.

These cars represent steel interurban cars purchased by the railroad between 1915 and 1930, which were upgraded and modified several times throughout the years. The North Shore Line's steel cars were built by a total of five different manufacturers throughout the years, with several variations between them all. These capture an average design between them all, particularly of the most common and notable versions, a standard coach, and a combine. These cars are represented with three different liveries the cars wore throughout their career. For each livery both a combine and coach car are available.

The different liveries are as follows:
  • A 1920s Livery painted medium green, and painted orange around the front windows. Available from 1915 to 1950.
  • A modern dark green and red, one of the most common liveries. Available from 1939 to 1963.
  • The "Silverliner" livery, featuring airbrushed gradients to make the smooth steel cars appear similar to newer fluted stainless steel lightweight cars. Available from 1951 to 1963.

Also, thanks to the following:
  • The Transport Fever North America Discord server, who were more than willing to provide resources, assistance, and generally answer questions whenever something didn't make sense or went wrong. This wouldn't be possible without them.
  • The Transport Fever 2 Wiki, all the information on there is incredibly valuable and it would have been impossible to do anything without those resources.
  • You, the people viewing this and downloading this mod! I was blown away with the positive response from my previous reskins and other work, it all really encouraged me to continue.

As with all previous mods, this was a big step. This is my first model to feature LODs, and the first that worked with passenger and freight capacities. Please let me know what you think in the comments below!

I love almost everything about this train, but the horn is very loud.

This is a wonderful mod. Using it heavily in my current save, mostly for town-to-town lines, but I have a few rigged up as goods carriers. Only thing to complain about is that the horn is a...bit too loud.;)

Especially fond of the cockpit view.

Can you make a iowa traction railroad livery as they bought multiple interubrans and merchandise cars/locomotives?

love these, but for whatever reason, when loaded with this mod (https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2377678070) they cause my game to crash

@USCGTANKER Some South Shore Line cars would be cool, though they're a fairly similar era to these North Shore cars and I want to get a good range of interurban cars represented. I actually referenced several photos of 761's restoration in the creation of the models and the textures- in fact the Silverliner coach is numbered 761 after that car.

@Jonny I love the Illinois Railway Museum; I grew up going there as a kid and still continue to visit. I took some pictures myself in-person as reference for these models, and the various websites IRM and its volunteers maintain were also an incredible help. Keep up the good work there!
