Crossroads Execution (variant 2/3 - gallows, blood moon)

The whole village has turned out. They always do for an execution.

The Elder sits pride of place, and people check the fruit and vegetables they've brought along for the occasion - with the occasional rock, depending on the crime.

Whether by the noose or at the stake, everyone wants a good view.

Just off the crossroads, the gravedigger waits patiently. He prefers hangings; his work has already begun in this stony, unhallowed ground - and he gets first dibs on the clothing (after the executioner, of course).

The people are getting restless. At a signal, the condemned is brought forward. Rowdy children start to throw their fruit and jeer as the moonlight sweeps across the pale, terrified face of one who didn't even face a trial.

That's just not how things are done around here. Trials make it all take too long, and, after all - nothing brings the village together like a good execution.

It is time.
