Would it be possible to set it up like the hinge version (spawning both halves) but instead allow you to detach it, and it use the physics in the detached mode?
For those struggling with connecting the Parts, I would recommend placing the 'Hook' element on a block with a small collision mesh (I used the 1x1x1 Strut piece from plane parts), and using Improvised Engineering/Experimentation in order to manually move the parts into place.
