It tints the sun, the sky, the atmospheric fog and the ambient light with red.

It obviously looks horrible and it's not intended for a normal playthrough, but it honestly gives another tone to the game, making the world more hellish as if it was straight up taken from some creepypasta. A bit late for spooky season, I know.
