HMMWV or Humvee - "highly mobile multi-purpose wheeled vehicle" - an American army cargo van, which is in service mainly with the US Armed Forces, as well as the armed forces, police and other services of some other countries. The vehicle has a high cross-country ability, is adapted for air transportation and parachute landing.



The factory and joint export verbal name of the machine - HUMMER ("Hammer") since the development is a registered trademark of its manufacturer - AM General Corporation - is used to advertise the corporation and promote its products on the international market, and since 1992 converted SUV models for ordinary users. HMMWV replaced not only the M151 SUVs, but also a number of trucks (M274, M561, M880).

After the outbreak of the Gulf War, many wealthy people acquired a desire to acquire such a "toy" for themselves, and AM General in 1992 announced the launch of a civilian version of the Humvee. In 1999, AM General sells the rights to the Hummer brand to General Motors. A decision was made whereby GM received the rights to the Hummer brand and the right to market and spread the preference for an SUV, and AM General chose the right to sell military modifications.
