TVSI Osiris Heavy Cruiser (Rev 2)

DESCRIPTION

The first mid-sized capital ship launched by newcomers Tristavian Shipyards Inc sits on the boundary line between the traditional cruiser and battlecruiser classes. Officially designated as a heavy cruiser, the Osiris is a front-line warship, combining 21 turret hardpoints with 20 point defence turrets, all linked to the conveyor systems. The large number of ahead thrusters gives the ship an unusually high top acceleration for its weight class allowing it to out run even many frigates and destroyers. Although lightly armored the Osiris includes a re-enforced heavy skeletal frame and has extra protection around critical ship systems.

The Osiris is designed to operate within supplies lines or as part of a fleet and lacks the storage capacity for extended operations away from resupply. The class also lacks even rudimentary processing or manufacturing facilities and relies on transport ships to re-arm.

In combat an Osiris captain will use the superior maneuverability to break through enemy battle lines, maximizing damage by presenting the dorsal and ventral sides of the ship to the enemy. Evasive actions are best achieved by hard acceleration and breaking and the dorsal and ventral thrusters provide reasonable reasonable acceleration. The port/starboard banks however provide below average lateral strafing. The primary combat focus will usually be to clear the volume of frigates and destroyers

Internally the ship contains a large central engineering to the stern with two central reactors and a further one in either nacelle. The main ammo stores are located centrally, surrounded by heavy plating and the primary banks of gyroscopes. Fire control is centered in a single control room midship. The main bridge provides raised consoles for two pilots with a clear view from the bows while other bridge staff are located lower down. Most crew accommodation is located within the bows of the vessel (along with the medical bay) with further accommodation in the stern of the ship around the main entrances. Internal defences are located at the main entrances, at the engineering/forward junctions and in the main forward halls.

CHANGE LOG

27/10/2014: Updated colour of conveyors, gyros and reactors. Added control groups to fire control chairs. Corrected problem with shoulder missile launchers not being connected to the conveyor network. Fixed issue with conveyor network secondary path. Replaced an un-necessary branch of the conveyor network with armour.

08/10/2014: Totally changed the original Tristavian Shipyards Inc file. Now includes only the Osiris as other craft had anyway moved to their own files. Updated the Osiris with added heads to crew accomodation, control in engineering, bridge and fire control, emergency power in the bows, a red alert system throughout the ship, various cameras and running lights. Fixed an issue with the conveyor system and replaced one connector on each side with a collector.

So weird that someone posts here after over a year; as one of my few ships to not have been updated since it's release, it's finally getting a full overhaul which began yesterday. Will be fully up to modern standards with oxygen, jump drives etc (and of course a vanilla legacy version as well).

Thanks redcomet35, I'm glad you like!

There actually is a whole (small) range of ships that I've made, see my workshop or the Collection link for the rest! There's also a linked forum post above which includes the design philosophy. For the moment I will not be including mods - they are too reliant on the author remaining active. I hope more and more stuff gets integrated into stock so I can do though!

Nice Work man. On a side note, would Tristavian Shipyards like to make the United Sectors of Terra their home nation?

Seems to happen a lot after patch day - will reupload when I get home on Sunday, in the mean time worlds can have their access reset by going to Load World -> Settings -> Advanced and then tick the Reset access option. On starting the world everything will be set to neutral access.
