Description
Jeddah Tower (Arab. برج جدة‎‎ Burj Jeddah), formerly known as the Kingdom Tower (Arab. برج المملكة‎‎‎ Burj al Mamlaka) and Mile-High Tower (Arab. برج الميل‎‎), is a project of one of the tallest buildings in the world. Under construction 32 km north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This project was the first in the world whose height exceeded 1 km.
A skyscraper with a preliminary cost of 4.6 billion rials ($1.23 billion; for comparison: the cost of building the Burj Khalifa skyscraper is $1.5 billion) and a height of 1007 m should become the center of the new Kingdom Center district, in which people will live 80 thousand people. The architect of the building is the architectural bureau of Adrian Smith, the initiator of the entire project is the Saudi prince Al-Waleed ibn Talal, one of the richest people in the Middle East and the nephew of the king of Saudi Arabia. Al-Waleed is the president of the Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), one of the largest corporations in the country. In 2009, the Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) was specially created to finance the construction.
Since the beginning of 2018, the construction of the tower has been halted for financial reasons, so the estimated date of completion of the construction is unknown (previously estimated dates of 2019, then 2020 are obviously incorrect). There are no changes at the construction site for 2022.
