Battle for France 1940

The Battle of France, also known as the Fall of France, was the invasion of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg by Nazi Germany during World War II. France had declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939, after the latter invaded Poland. In early September 1939, France launched the failed Saar Offensive, and by mid-October French troops had returned to their original positions.

The Germans developed the Yellow Plan (Fall Gelb), German armored units advanced by surprise in the Ardennes and along the Somme valley, isolating and encircling the Allied units that had advanced to Belgium to face the invasion expected by that territory. When British, Belgian and French forces were pushed out to sea by the well-organized German operation, the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and several French divisions were evacuated from Dunkirk beach in Operation Dynamo.

1-. Ardennes

2-. Battle of Sedan
