CRN M-271 Paladin MBT

 

The CRN Paladin Main Battle Tank is the CRN's latest, and most modern main battle tank. Built to replace older Defender 1's the Paladin makes improvements on all of the areas where the Defender fell short. Improvements in the engine design and under carriage meant that the Paladin could see a greatly improved speed over other CRN vehicles, with a top speed of 76 m/s the Paladin can partake in enhanced maneuver warfare operations and lead lightning quick armored breakthroughs before the enemy can prepare any kind of defense. Additionally the Paladin is equipped with the CRN's Trojan active detection system, enabled by a suite of sensors, and turrets the Paladin has greatly improved "hunter killer" capabilities. With all of these design features the Paladin is a highly dangerous fighting platform. Because in a fighting scape of advanced weapons systems the winner is often the one who shoots first, the Paladin is the tank that enables first strike capabilities in the CRN.

Built to replace the Defender MBT as the back bone of the Republic Ground corps the Paladin is built with the core concepts of high maneuverability and survivability featuring some of the best armor protection in the CRN the paladin is capable of engaging nearly any threat that presents itself. The Paladin itself is the natural evolution of Republic tank design, highly mobile and powerful the Paladin is purpose built for the CRN's shock and awe ground campaign tactics. Shock and awe being a military tactic that uses overwhelming power and spectacular displays of force to disable and paralyze the enemy, as well as dismantle their will to fight and their perception of the battlefield. The Paladin as well as other Republic vehicles help facilitate this shock and awe. In 2900 after the Republic Xeno conflict the CRN saw a rise in domestic terror groups. These terror groups carried out attacks on civilian and military infrastructure, proclaiming themselves as the Neo Secessionist Army (NSA). With local and federal law enforcement tailing them, they managed to capture a boneyard facility taking several defender 1s for their own, with Police special operations teams showing up shortly after they began to encounter heavy gun fire, and proceeded to get involved in a firefight with NSA terrorists. The special operations teams took heavy fire and casualties. Eventually military elements of the 101st armored division had to be called to the depot. The police with anti tank guns were able to dismantle one tank, but the other illuded the police special operations teams. Encircling the facility the 101st was able to find the second stolen tank and destroy it. Not hesitating the remaining forces rushed the facility managing to capture 13 out of the 45 NSA operatives reported to be at the facility. Operatives were also able to capture hostages that had been taken. Several weeks after the operation the Neo Secessionists captured another supply depot. Hacking into Republic TV channels they made their declaration of war on the Republic. What seemed to be an isolated event had now presented itself as a deliberate attempt to dismantle the CRN. Having none of it the CRN President issued an executive order to all armed forces that the CRN would wage war on the NSA. With more captured facilities and planets joining the Secession the Republic entered it's second civil war. With war planners opting to crush the rebellion as quickly as possible the CRN turned towards shock and awe. The Paladin was set center stage in this operation, The CRN moved the 212th Expeditionary force to recapture the breakaway regions. In total 45 Planets attempted to secede from the Republic. Incredibly quickly the 212th established operational superiority, with the Secessionists tanks being old and in short supply the Republic engaged in a protracted war. The Republic landed on the planet of Tetra 13 Upon landings resistance was fierce, but once ground units had landed the CRN forces were able to crush the secessionists. In just 13 days where they had landed half a world away from the planets capital they were at the outskirts. With intense urban fighting the Republic recaptured Tetra 13, the rest of the planets fell one by one to the Republic. Through this combat the Paladin MBT was center stage, engaging the enemy, and overwhelming them with its immense speed and firepower. Illustrating just how effective it is at the CRN's Maneuver warfare tactics.
