SCP-073 - "Cain"

Special conditions of detention: SCP-073 should be kept in a two-room cell with an inorganic environment and a bathroom. The subject is allowed to move freely within the scientific center and eat in the common dining room. A tracking device must be attached to SCP-073 and must not be removed. The subject is prohibited from contacting the surface and leaving the scientific center. The subject is under no circumstances allowed to come into contact with plant SCPs. Violence should not be used against SCP-073 under any circumstances.

SCP-073 is currently being held in Area 17.

Description: SCP-073 looks like a tanned man of Arab or Middle Eastern type of appearance, about thirty years old, height - 185 cm (6 ft 1 in), weight - 75 kg (165 lb), black-haired, blue-eyed. The subject's arms, legs, spine and shoulder blades have been replaced with artificial ones, the origin and the metal from which they are made are unknown. The subject notices this only when it is pointed out, and claims that he does not know how, why and when these substitutions were made, and that he has had them since he can remember. On the forehead of the subject is a symbol, presumably of Sumerian origin. The symbol is still not translated, and the subject shows concern when the symbol is mentioned and refuses to talk about it. The subject needs food and water on a regular basis, but feeds exclusively on animal food due to its exposure to plant objects.

SCP-073, who calls himself "Cain", is usually polite and friendly with anyone who speaks to him, although his speech is described as cold and a bit mechanical. He is very helpful and likes to help the staff in everyday matters, whatever they may be. He knows history in great detail — from ancient times to the present day, and easily speaks common world languages, including dead ones. The subject has a photographic memory, can memorize word for word the entire text in a dictionary of eight hundred pages, after viewing it for a minute and a half. In all passed tests on mental abilities, he exceeded the average threshold.

The presence of SCP-073 is unfavorable to any living organism growing in the soil and causes death in such organisms within a radius of twenty (20) meters from the subject. The ground through which SCP-073 passes (and within a radius of twenty [20] meters) becomes barren due to the death of all anaerobic microorganisms, due to which the soil becomes unable to support life until new microorganisms appear. Anything obtained from living organisms growing in the soil, such as wood and paper, instantly rots and disintegrates when touched by SCP-073. Everything grown hydroponically is also subject to these effects.

When violence is used against SCP-073, any damage inflicted by SCP-073 is reflected on the attacker, while SCP-073 remains outwardly unharmed. This applies to all damage inflicted by SCP-073. Attempts to obtain tissue and blood samples are futile: after the procedure began, the employees performing it felt everything that was applied to SCP-073, and, in the end, received samples of their own tissues and blood, despite the fact that "all actions were directed exclusively at SCP-073." Indirect damage through an intermediary also leads to the fact that the person performing the action receives the injuries inflicted. Although SCP-073 is not affected by the damage inflicted on him, he claims that he nevertheless feels pain, and politely asked the researchers to refrain from too harmful actions towards him.

Additional notes: SCP-073 was found in a police station in New York, at 19██, where he was taken after being found among several corpses of bandits engaged in violent crimes. SCP-073 told the police that the bandits tried to make fun of him, but then got angry and tried to kill him, which led to their own demise. SCP-073 was taken into custody and was considered unidentified, as the New York Police Department could not find any information about him. SCP-073 was spotted by the Foundation during a routine check of unidentified persons, and subsequently released into the custody of the Organization.

Addendum 073-1: Due to the indestructible nature of SCP-073, its photographic memory and desire to please, the Foundation's management felt that all information should be duplicated in the memory of SCP-073, which would ensure its safety in the event of a disaster. Although this statement caused a mixed reaction, SCP-073 agreed and swore to keep everything secret.

Addendum 073-2: When information concerning SCP-076 was given to SCP-073 for "duplication", the subject demonstrated knowledge of this information but was unwilling to supplement it, despite his statement that he already knew everything about SCP-076. He then said that it would be better for all concerned if he did not meet with SCP-076.

Addendum 073-3: Examination of an unidentified metal on SCP-073 has established that it is beryllium bronze, a metal documented as being used by several anomalous cultures and creatures. In particular, beryllium bronze is a component found in SCP-1216, SCP-1427, SCP-2481, and SCP-2711. In light of this discovery, the Foundation began work on tracing the origin of beryllium bronze and its initial distribution around the world. In response to a request, SCP-073 was able to provide information suggesting that beryllium bronze was first discovered in the Middle East, but the exact place of origin is still undetermined. Further research on the origin of beryllium bronze is currently ongoing.
