Its primary weapons consist of 6 VL-ASROC missiles that are able to significantly reduce the effectiveness of active defenses on submarines by coming down from a steep angle, therefore significantly decreasing their intercept window. Its secondary weapon consists of a rotary railgun that also acts as a CIWS which combines with its large interceptor batteries making the ship almost impervious to missiles and torpedos. The Nereid also possesses a formidable aircraft complement of two Mosquitos and an Osprey VTOL. The Osprey is a quad-engine VTOL armed with a pair of sonar-guided large torpedoes while the Mosquitoes are twin-engine light VTOLs armed with a pair of EMP torpedoes and small missiles. While primarily designed for fighting submarines the Nereid is perfectly capable of combating both heavy surface vessels and light aircraft.
