Reduced Maximum Army Size

Description
A small mod, mainly for my own use, that reduces maximum army size by changing the second army size tech, Signal Corps. Instead of an army size bonus, it now grants an additional accessoiry slot to standard units.

I personally find battles more engaging and less tedious with smaller armies. The field isn't as clogged, it's far easier to plan out your turns and keep a good overview of the field and it's simply a bit quicker

As I want to preserve the tech slot as a powerful army research, I thought an accessoiry would be a good call. This increases the flexibility on your units by a lot and may put the spotlight on some lesser used Accessoires.
The tech also grants +1 Reinforcement Slots to your whole empire.
I highly recommend using this together with my Skill Tree Overhaul mod for the best experience. Note that this mod needs to be loaded AFTER Skill Tree Overhaul.

If desired, I could implement the reinforcement changes to the hero skills from Skill Tree Overhaul into this mod.

Thanks for your feedback ^.^

I dont think I could code something like that, sadly. Im not even sure if that would be possible at all, but its an interesting mechanic.

hi, 1st of all thanks for all the mods you hv made to improve the gameplay. i would like to share my opinion, what if u make a mod to limit army numbers?for example u started with max of 5 allowable armies, n then get increased army number per era. let say 10 armies at max, so it is more manageable for both players and Ai...ELCP did introduce "shackled Ai" but it doesnt really improve the gameplay.

@Corrupted Slime: If you wish, I can make another version with the gradual boost. I'd still keep the Accessoiry as the "bonus" for era IV(It's stronger than the era 2 bonus, cause more accessoiries = multiplicative power and later into the game you can afford the stronger accessoiries).

I considered it, but it felt pretty bleh in playtests. Basically: I think that 6-slot armies feel very good, so I want to unlock them early. The more gradual approach feels rather unsatisfying.

The bonus I currently have for the Era IV tech is also quite powerful, comparable in power to the old 8-unit armies, I believe.
In Era IV, your dust, industry and strategics are all reaching quite high values, so you get good use out of that accessoiry slot. Dust-Tier accessoiries for your units are also quite powerful(Especially the Health Boost one, imo) and if you got the strategics, there are many interesting accessoiries that otherwise get rarely used in them.

So in short: I belive the way I designed the upgrades in this mod is most fun. You quickly get to the "fun" army size and an extra accessoiry adds an additional layer of customization and power to your units.

DId you consider making the size change more gradual? Both era II and IV techs could give +1 size. Then you'd need to add some small bonus to the era IV tech to keep it attractive.

@NeonNobility Sorry for seeing your comment so late. To answer your question:
Some Quest armies can still be 7+ size, but there are very few that are so big.
Never seen the normal roaming armies have 7+ Units.
Other factions - be they AI or Player - cannot have more than 6 units maximum, as they have the same limiting Tech as you do. Well, Necrophages can have bigger armies, but that's because they are Necrophages.
NeonNobility 30 Jul, 2023 @ 7:36am
does this mean that no roaming armies or other factions will ever have more than 6 units in formation (or 7 including heroes)?

I opted to frontload the army size by keeping the Era 2 army size tech, as 4 army slots feels REALLY low. 6 slots does feel just about fine for all stages, in my opinion. So thats why I removed later army size tech instead of the era 2 tech.

how about simply removing size bonus from era2 tech?
