During the Chinese Civil war,a number of Thompson submachine guns were illegally exported to the country. During WW2, at least 3 Chinese arsenals built copies of those 1921 models (with varying degrees of quality,quantity,and even different details). Little is known about these guns, but some surviving examples have "Thampson" stamped on the side (likely a bad reading or translation of the original)

除了仿制各地也对汤姆森冲锋枪进行过仿制，最早进行仿制的是1923-1924年广州的兵工厂但仿制并不成功，在此之后在山西的军阀阎锡山，四川的军阀刘湘所属的兵工厂以及天津大沽造船厂，以及一些地方小厂对汤姆森都有仿制。

其中最成功最有名的莫属阎锡山的山西军人工艺实习厂(27年改名太原兵工厂)仿制的晋造汤姆森和刘湘的第21军武器维修所(后重庆武器修理所)仿制的川造汤姆森，在1927-30年是太原兵工厂的黄金时代，亦是汤姆森产量最大的时候，最高能达到每月900支。
