Adoption Service (EK2 / Elder Kings 2 compatible)

Description
Visit an orphanage and adopt some kids. Basically, a greatly simplified "Visit Local Orphanage" decision from Adoption Options mod (posted with pengoyo's permission) with already existing in the game adoption features sprinkled in.

  • You can visit an orphanage every 3 years provided you're an adult (and not in prison) to gain some piety and potentially a couple of kids (and lose/gain a bit of stress depending on your character traits). AI won't take this decision.
  • Kids' faith/culture is randomized from any faith/culture existing in your realm (they'll always know your language, though).
  • Their age ranges from 5 to 8 (so there's time to change their education focus and faith/culture, if you want).
  • All of them have a chance to have a couple (usually just one) of congenital and physical traits, as well as a coping mechanism (what? being in an orphanage is stressful).
  • You can make kids your courtiers without adopting them.
  • Your feudal vassals, biological children and (fertile) spouses/concubines won't be happy with you adopting a lowborn (and being an Adopted Lowborn is a negative modifier in and of itself).

Compatibility
Compatible with any other mod, including total conversions and the original Adoption Options mod. If you want a mod that's compatible with total conversion mods and allows you to adopt already existing characters, take a look at Crusaders Adoption Agency.

You need to have Royal Court DLC installed

New features in 1.8.0 update
1.8.0 update adds the ability to disinherit disputed heritage and bastard kids free of charge. I didn't want this mod to edit vanilla files for compatibility sake, but if you want to add adopted lowborns to this list (and legitimized bastards while you at it, since your usual bastards can't inherit anyway) you need to edit 00_dynast_interactions which is located in
\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings III\game\common\character_interactions
Just add these two lines in 3 instances (in lines 56, 176, 215), right below has_trait = bastard (Ctrl+F to search in file).
has_trait = legitimized_bastard has_character_modifier = hold_court_8100_adopted_modifier
If you're using a 1.8.0 updated total conversion mod (or another updated mod that edits "disinherit_interaction" section in 00_dynast_interactions), edit the corresponding file in \Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1158310\your-mod-numbers\common\character_interactions instead.

Elder Kings 2
I wanted to make this mod specifically so I could adopt kids of other races in Elder Kings 2. I'm also using Beastfolk Game Rules, so I don't have any hybrid beastfolk children.
In 0.10.0, EK2 added an orphanage option of its own. Here are some main features that are different from my mod's:
  • You can visit an orphanage only if you don't have any living relatives (since they'll be your heirs if you don't have kids). AI can take this decision.
  • All the orphans will be of your faith and culture (so no adopting other races).
  • The decision isn't readily available for tribal governments (since you have to have a city with an orphanage building in your realm).
  • Only one of the orphans has a chance to have a trait (and it will be a disfigurement trait).
If this sounds a bit too restricting, you can use this mod, there are no conflicts. You can also edit 00_dynast_interactions in order to freely disinherit adopted lowborns and legitimized bastards (and "impure" kids while you're at it), the file's located in
\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1158310\2887120253\common\character_interactions
Open it with Notepad add these three lines in 3 instances (in lines 59, 180, 226), right below has_trait = bastard (Ctrl+F to search in file):
has_trait = legitimized_bastard has_character_modifier = hold_court_8100_adopted_modifier has_trait = impure

@biggie_boss I think it'd be easier to use Crusaders Adoption Agency, than to make a separate mod

@Ri'Zakar How feasible would it be to make it so that any unlanded lowborn child under maybe 12, with both parents dead, gives you an interaction to adopt them? Better yet, if you're a child and both your parents are dead maybe be able to request adoption from compassionate rulers that have no kids of their own?

@ biggie_boss Thanks! Unfortunatly, the ek2 version is too restricting for me and doesn't allow to adopt children of other races (I updated the description with some of the main differences).

Great work on the mod, but it looks like EK2 now has adoption as an available option with the new update.

@Lost Nomad Thanks, it's my first mod and I was glad when I got it working the way I wanted :)

Hey I'm the author of Crusaders Adoption Agency, just wanted to say thanks for the mention to my mod.

I like the targeted focus of this mod, it's very clean :steamthumbsup:
