Rooms
By Brady
Rooms are a core part of Embark. This does not just mean bedrooms but any room with a bed or a workbench. This guide is built off of my knowledge of the game although rooms do not seem to be too complicated.

Rooms give buffs depending on what is inside of it.

At this point this guide is complete until I find more answers.
Leave any feedback in the comments, I don't know if the guide is bad unless you tell me.

Creating Better Rooms
Rooms are any enclosed area with a door. Rooms house beds and workshops and can buff them based on different categories.

Rooms have 6 different categories you can improve.

As seen here this includes:
  • Bed/Workshop
  • Decor
  • Size
  • Walls and Floor
  • Lighting
  • And Ventilation

Click to each section for an explanation.
(Guide is all based on my experience)
Extra Difficulty
Extra difficulty allows you to boost the quality of your workbench/bed as well as decor.

<From what I understand, the lower the 'Maximum Quality at # Strength' number is the better the building will be. Although this makes it more difficult to craft, having a high enough strength skill will increase your chances. Failing crafting lowers colonists moods.
In this case the mood boost is positive because of> successful crafts.

Strength

If the '100% chance of success at # strength' number is lower than or equal to your crafter's strength it will always be built on the first try. The strength skill can be found by clicking on the colonist and hitting 'skills'.

Example
*Each green value represents quality
**Each purple value represents 'Maximum quality at # strength value'
As you can see as you move the slider to the right, decreasing the 'Maximum quality at # strength value' the quality will be higher.
Bed
Workshop and Bed Quality
The 'bed' and 'workshop' ratings of your room are based on the quality of your bed and or workbench.

The quality is based on a couple different things.
  • Your crafter's crafting skill
  • The difficulty modifier you choose
  • Your crafter's strength skill relative to the difficulty you chose

If your bed or workshop quality is bad you can demolish it, and rebuild it with higher difficulty modifiers. If your crafter's strength is not high enough there is a chance they will fail the building which results in a temporary mood decrease.
Decor
Decor requires an artist to build.
Decor is available in the 'living area' section in the bottom.
Decor is unlocked through the skill tree and requires and artist to build each item.

The quality of Decor is very similar to that of beds and workshops. the "Extra Difficulty" section goes in depth into creating quality buildings.

In this example my quality 6 vase is providing a 24/30 rating in my room.

Quality is effected by your artist's level and the extra difficulty applied to the item.
Size
Size has somewhat dumbfounded be. Each one of my bedrooms are 4x5. My bedrooms range from 16,17,18,19, and 20 ratings for size. I don't know why seeing as they are all the same room size but whatever.

If you know why it is like this or what is causing it please tell me. I would recommend 4x5 rooms.

Walls and Floor
Walls and Floor focuses on what the walls and floors of your room are made of. In my experience I have used wood and stone walls to complete this category.

From my current situation:
  • Stone walls with a loam floor give 8/10 walls and floor.
  • Stone walls with a wood floor give 10/10 walls and floor.
  • Stone walls with a quartzite floor give 10/10 walls and floor

Therefore if you want full ratings for walls and floor make sure that you change out both your walls and flooring. For the best results use crafted walls for floors and walls.
Lighting
Lighting in my experience can typically be fulfilled using one torch in the room.
Ventilation
I have no idea how to fix poor ventilation. I thought a grate to the outside would fix it but it didn't. Please let me know if you figure out a solution.
Other Guides & Thank You
Please leave any feedback on my guides as I only know that they work if you tell me.
I have really been enjoying Embark and there aren't a lot of guides so I thought I would make some.

Also, thank you for clicking on my guide, I spend a decent amount of time on these and I hope it helped.
