Svinesund - a New Nordic Capital

This is an 1:1 map of the Svinesund sound area, made with 81 tiles and outside connections in mind.

Inspiration behind making this map was the Gunnar Wetterbergs proposal for a Nordic Federation. I posted in the steam discussions about suggestions, and heard only crickets. So my imagination went a little nuts.

In-case anyone wants to get pissed off, remember, this is not reality, instead it’s meant as parody. ;)

Foreign policy
The Nordic countries united, becoming a great power on the global scale, scaring the sh*t out of Russia, making Russia so insecure it collapsed automatically, again, currently in midst of a brutal civil war. Tatarstan is now independent and eternally happy and maintains good relations with the Nordic state. Essentially, all the Nordic countries wanted to become a joint military buffer-zone with one of it’s members, Finland, in solidarity. The state union is also boosting the confidence of the other Europeans of the EU and NATO generally speaking.

America though is real mad, because they hate new upstart powers that can threaten them, and most of all, the Nordic countries didn’t ask permission to unite before doing so and now buying Greenland will be a sh*tloads more difficult to “buy”. The Americans where just about to break little sh*tty weakling Denmark, and now they went and got friends... not fair to the poor little Americans, not at all, they probably have to go beat up Canada or Mexico now.. again. Angry America has to put that anger somewhere.

Internal integration
Norway was in a giving mood when signing the treaty and decided to give up it’s oil fund, for the common Nordic good. Those funds will now be at your disposal Mr Architect! (Use AutoMoney or StartingMoney mods to simulate this). You have over 10 billion NOK to spend. Though, maybe save some for the Military Buffer-zoning project also.

Elitist Swedes think their language is superior to all other, especially better than Danish and that will be this new cities first language! The Swedes would not agree to the federation otherwise.
(I humbly recommend “Svenska namn” CNL mod).

As proposed by Gunnar Wetterberg ( https://www.norden.org/en/publication/united-nordic-federation ) the federation must, absolutley must, be called “The United Nordic Federation”.
Wetterberg mandates that the new state should chose the Danish queen Margrethe something to become queen of this new state. Oh boy, the Danes are seriously proud of this and thus are demanding a palace be built to the honour of all Danes (*Cough*... Margrethe *cough*).

The Icelanders have been lost at sea and forgotten into insignificance, sorry.

The union capital itself
The countries united and started to decide upon things. When coming to the capital city, The Icelanders wanted the capital to be build around Höfn, in order to revitalize the eastern half of the island and bring some investment there. All other Nordic countries voted this proposal down, having MPs fly to Iceland is way to unreasonable. Then Estonia pitched in, but was interrupted, got kicked out of the room and told never to return by those elitist Swedes. While Sweden was doing that, Norway proposed Oslo, Denmark said no, Oslo can’t fit two monarchs without bloody civil strife. Something about Egos I guess. Finland suggested Turku, Norway concurred, but then Sweden said no, there cannot be a rival city where Swedish is also spoken, it must be a Sweden-Swedish language place or somewhere where Riksvenska (= lit. Reichswedish) can be invested in. Sweden then proposed Stockholm, everybody said no, they proposed Gothenburg, everybody said no … 97238582.75 proposals later... Everybody still keep telling Sweden no. Now then, Denmark, reading the room, proposed Svinesund (Swine sound in English, oink oink). The Borders of Norway and Sweden runs through the sound. North of the sound you have Halden and south Strömstad. All the Nordic countries could agree to this proposal, however, there was a problem. There’s people living in the area already. We can’t build a capital on peoples private property and houses, right? Right. So the people must go, Norway throws some money at the problem, makes the folks sign NDAs. Suddenly the inhabitants disappear. The new Nordic state then goes and nationalized a 17.28x17.28km square formes sized piece of land around Svinesund in order to build the new Capital city. The Territory will be treated similar to Washington DC or Canberra, as an autonomous unit of the new nation-state.
