For starters, look up a game called Starsector. Check out a list of their base ship models, and use that as a starting point. If you are feeling EXTRA bold, look up mods for the game called Diable Avionics and Shadowyards. Plenty of cool looking ships from that game and the mods.
You got tugs, frigates, destroyers, cruisers, capitals, dreads, corvettes, freighters, haulers, salvage gantries, explorers etc.
If you use some mods, you can put some Turreted point defense on it for self defense against missiles and projectiles.
Long as you link it in the mod page of course. Speaking of which, id assume that most transport ships have atleast 1 or 2 pdf turrets for minimal protection. Atleast thats how it is in most space games i play.
