[ARCHIVE] SS United States (v1)

Description
Here is the SS United States, one of the fastest passenger ships ever built!

SS United States was built for the United States Lines in the 1950s, and her design made it possible to convert her into a troopship in wartime. Not only was she the largest ocean liner built in the United States, but she is also the fastest ocean liner ever built, and to this day still holds the Blue Riband for fastest transatlantic crossing. She served as a passenger ship until 1969 when the United States Lines went bankrupt and she was put up for sale. Through out her life after being decommissioned, there have been several attempts through the years to preserve her as a museum, and even project reconverting her back into a passenger ship. In 2003, Norwegian Cruise Line attempted to buy the ship and have it sail with their "NCL America" division, but ultimately failed after it was rumored Norwegian would sell her for scrap, which made the "SS United States Conservancy" purchase the ship in 2011 and lay her up in Pier 82 in Philadelphia. In 2016, Crystal Cruises announced a project to refit the ship to join their fleet, but this plan also failed. Today, the SS United States still remains in Philadelphia, with the SS United States Conservancy still doing everything they can preserve United States, one of the last remaining ocean liners still in existence today.

Includes a reskinned model based on Norwegian Cruise Line's planned refit.

Has bodygroups for lights, lifeboats, anchors, name, and funnels!

as an american, the fact that we failed to be able to save our flagship made me greatly disappointed in this country. With the recent election though, I have lost all faith in America. RIP The SS United States, and with it will sink all that remains of this once great nation.

Pride of a nation. Carrying her country's name across the Atlantic and breaking records.

And this is the fate she gets... absolutely devastating.

They could take off one (or both) of the funnels or any piece that could restored and preserve it in a museum, but it looks like they're just gonna throw away the whole ship in the ocean. Really sad.

It's a shame that such a beautiful ship will end up sunk and left to rot at the bottom of the sea.

That's good news, if the Conservancy wins.

Update:
September 12 has come and is almost gone, and it's looking like the SS United States Conservancy has been able to take the matter back into the courtroom, with a tentative plan to extend the deadline to December.

It's been on my mind the entire week.

It really sucks if this is the final decision they are making. September 12th is supposedly the final day for them to make the ultimate decision, and hopefully it won't be the Florida seabed.
