Specific Decoration

Description
IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • This mod adds ~6900 reactions total (separating item materials, items, decor materials and decor techniques results in exponentially growing reaction counts) so the Work Order page can get very laggy (~2 seconds to populate).
Check out the discussion on the topic to see how we're dealing that in V4.
  • This mod adds reactions to the dwarf race, so a fresh world is required to educate those bearded beauties with this newfound knowledge of specification.
This does not apply to tweaks of existing recipes (like bug fixes or name changes in updated versions)
  • Your dwarves are lazy: they'll use the closest matching item to them to decorate.
Use an input stockpile and an output stockpile to avoid decorating the same item over and over.

What does this mod do?
This mod allows you to be more specific when selecting an item to decorate at your Craftsdwarf, instead of relying on complicated stockpile restrictions and random chance.

Features:
  • Support for specifying the what's material (or select any to forgo the option)
  • Choose the what:
    • Furniture:
      • Beds
      • Tables
      • Chairs/Thrones (depending on their material)
      • Caskets/Coffins/Sarcophagi (depending on their material)
      • Doors/Portals (depending on their material)
      • Statues
      • Cabinets
      • Boxes/Chests/Coffers (depending on their material)
    • Finished Goods:
      • Figurines
      • Rings
      • Earrings
      • Amulets
      • Bracelets
      • Crowns
      • Scepters
      • Goblets
      • Instruments
      • Toys
    • Containers:
      • Bags
      • Barrels
      • Bins
  • Choose the with:
    • Gems
    • Metal Bars
    • Stone
    • Wood
    • Bones
    • Shells
    • Ivory/Teeth
    • Horns
    • Glass
    • Cloth
    • Leather
  • Support for specifying the how:
    • Cover: Encrust/Stud/Decorate (depending on the material)
    • Hang rings from...
    • Encircle with bands
    • Add spikes

Each decoration type (gems, metal bars, wood etc) uses and gives experience relative to the right professions.
ie. Decorating with gems trains gem setting, decorating with wood trains woodcraft, etc.

That's over 6900 specific definitions that you can further narrow down (which gem, for example) in game
All wrapped up in a neat little menu system (under 'Specifically decorate...') so you can get to making the perfect item sooner.

UPCOMING FEATURES / FIXES
  • FEATURE: Armor and Weapon categories - If your nobledwarves all carry golden hammers, they had better be gem encrusted, spike-adorned golden hammers.

Thanks for checking out this mod!
Happy Holidays!

Crown Prince Tristan

I really like the idea, started a new fortress with it today. For now it's ok, i'm just worried about the fps once i reach like 300+ dwarves, would be possible to do a lighter version, maybe just selecting the item and not the gem/bone/shell, etc? Tbh, i just want to engrave tables with anything lol

@Action Bastard

that exists in base game, if you go into the work order and its details (i think you hit d or the magnifying glass idr exactly) and you will be able to specify what stone is used and who or what is carved into the rock.

I downloaded this and the options aren't appearing. Is something wrong? Is there a requirement I didn't meet?

Is there a way to make specific statues? like choose the image the staute is of?

Can't seem to do anything with a named Sapphire Crown.
It's inside a storage zone, but the workshop doesn't recognize it when I:
Specifically Decorate》Any》Finished Good》Crown 》Gems 》 [requires crown]

am I doing it correctly?

it would be so nice to just tell the manager what the final produkt should be and dont care for the single steps. (in Vanilla)

Subbed to this, created a world and saw absolutely nothing change. And yes, I installed the mod properly when installing. What am I missing here?

UPD: It seems to require Glass rock cabinet, for example, so my guess is that it looks at glass-made furniture as made out of stone -> green glass, not glass itself.

For some reason the game can't detect things made out of glass so I can't decorate them. They are availiable, but the craft's shops just don't see them. They also don't seem to see gems made of green glass.

Absolutely essential mod, I quit my 200 pop 5-year fortress just to install this because vanilla decorating makes me want to tear my hair out.
