Operation Whiteout | An Avalanche AI Battle

*Mod updated with compatibility for the February 28th, 2025 MCC patch.*

"While the Master Chief was headed to High Charity's remnants to retrieve Cortana, the last remaining members of Truth's forces have flocked to the new Halo in search of a refuge. The UNSC has dispatched a team of Marines, accompanied by Elites, to weed out these last remaining members of Truth's Covenant. A chaotic conflict is about to ensue at one of the ring's power stations, located within a vast ice shelf."


This is my next mod that I am very pleased to release today. After many hours of work tweaking various mod features, my second AI war project is ready to play. Just like Sandtrap AI Battlefield, you can choose a side, and do battle against the enemy any way you see fit. This battle will go on forever, with endelss AI respawning, for both ground troops and vehicles alike. There is tons of variety in this battle, with each fight playing out differently every time. Marines with Elites do battle against a Covenant Army, made up of Brutes, Grunts, Drones, Jackals, and Hunters. Each type of Covenant has varied respawn times based on unit capabilities. This also goes for all vehicles, and UNSC/Elite forces.

This map also features some custom made assets - Halo 2A Elites, that have their H2 ranks restored and functional, plus the blue Sentinel Captain beam. I did not make these assets, and credits plus download links will be found below. Thanks a bunch to the authors for making and sharing these awesome mods!


Teams:

  • UNSC/Elites - GREEN
  • Covenant - PURPLE

Features:

  • Endless AI battle that will go on for as long as the game lasts.
  • Assorted weapons and ranks for all AI, so that each fight is unique.
  • Pathfinding nearly everywhere.
  • Respawning AI vehicles for each team.
  • Over 65 AI that take part in the battle, with staggered spawns to average 35-40 active units to maintain AI intelligence.
  • Fully scripted dropships to ferry in new squads once a group has been lost.
  • AI vehicles that spawn at each team's base, and will continue to do so for the game's duration.
  • New custom made assets featured in this map! (Halo 2A Elites and Sentinel Captain Beam)

Known Issues:

  • AI vehicles will rarely drive off the cliff like fools. Don't worry, they'll just respawn within a few minutes. This is also kind of funny to see, so I didn't bother trying to fix.

I haven’t heard of that being an issue with the map. It could be a corrupted download.

I recommend exiting MCC, unsubscribing from the mod, relaunch MCC to confirm it is gone, exiting again, and then re-subscribe to the mod. In some rare occasions the mod download bugs out and certain aspects wind up not functioning properly. Also verify you have both Halo 3 Campaign and MP content fully installed in your MCC settings. If one is missing, install it, and then restart your game once complete.

I would love to make something massive like that. The problem is that the games in the MCC are not capable of handling it. The game engines would simply not be able to run that many AI entities simultaneously. The bots would all start acting completely braindead at that point, or the game would just outright crash and be completely unstable. The games in the MCC are anywhere from 12-24 years old and the technology back then wasn’t as sophisticated as what we have today.

So I love the idea and would absolutely do it if there was a possibility it would work!

also i got another question have you ever thought of making an AI endless war mod but it had like 100 AI at once like 50 on both sides would be super funny lol

Hey there meatpie. The best way to spectate battles is to set the player traits to permanent strong active camo in the game settings. Do this for both the player and editor traits if planning to run the map in Forge.
