ThüleProjects - Six Point Cabin

Description
ThüleProjects - Six Point Cabin: Enclosure for North American Porcupine and Eastern spotted skunk.

North America themed area with North American porcupines and spotted skunks.

» Outdoor facilities

An outdoor area is being built, which can be separated into two outdoor areas by means of a slider if required. This means that the animals can be kept together or separately from each other. The facility is set up with climbing trees for the North American Porcupines and with hiding places, stones and bushes for the skunks. Brown PVC pipes are attached to the climbing trees, into which feeding leaf branches for the North American Porcupines can be inserted. The substrate consists of sand, grass and areas of earth. The substrate must be secured against breaking out of the boundary, for example by loosely laying heavy natural stones in a gravel bed with drainage joints.

Since no indoor spaces are provided or necessary for the skunks, they have places of retreat on the facility. Thematically designed dog kennels serve as retreats. The ulterior motive could be that the trapper who lives in the hut has hunting dogs and built a dog house for them in front of the hut himself from simple boards. The roof of the hut should either be removable or open using hinges so that the animal keeper can easily clean it or change the straw bed.

» Inside rooms

At the rear of the grounds is a building designed like an old trapper's hut. In this hut there are two interior rooms measuring 5.00 m x 3.00 m x 3.00 m, which are intended for the North American Porcupines and can be connected to each other via a slider. The interiors function as a place of retreat and for acclimatizing new animals or for rearing them in case of illness. There is a nursing corridor in the building through which the interior rooms can be entered. The interior can be viewed by visitors through windows on the side.

On the outside of the building is a porch that wraps around the house in a U-shape. Since the visitor can enter this veranda outside the enclosure and at the same time the veranda continues inside the facility, the visitor has the impression of being in the same facility with the animals, even if the facility itself cannot be entered by the visitors .

» Fence

A "wall" made of wooden beams, at least 1.20 m high, is chosen to enclose the facility, which is secured at the top with at least 1 E-strand (because of the North American Porcupines).

Because skunks are amazing climbers, it's important to have a smooth surface on the side of the enclosure that doesn't offer any gripping or climbing opportunities.
